Pulmuone, a leading Korean food company, announced record-breaking tofu revenue of $155 million (224.2 billion won) in the United States last year, driven by the increasing demand for plant-based protein and a strategic expansion of sales channels.

According to Pulmuone, its Pulmuone Foods USA subsidiary experienced a 12 percent increase in tofu sales compared to 2024, continuing its impressive growth. The company’s US tofu sales have doubled since 2021.

Pulmuone highlighted that its high-protein tofu products were a key driver of this growth, with sales reaching $41.5 billion won last year, nearly tripling the $15.6 billion won recorded in 2021.

The company secured significant new accounts in the third quarter of last year amidst rising tofu demand, and it anticipates continued positive earnings this year.

Pulmuone also stated that its tofu products, which represent approximately half of Pulmuone Foods USA’s total revenue, are diversifying their reach through various sales channels, including food services, multinational restaurants, business-to-business food chains, and school meal programs.

To meet the escalating nationwide demand, Pulmuone plans to complete the production line expansion at its tofu plant in Ayer, Massachusetts, by the end of March. Furthermore, the company intends to increase tofu production at its Fullerton, California plant.

Since acquiring Nasoya, the former No. 1 tofu brand in the US, for approximately $50 million in 2016, Pulmuone has maintained its leading position in the US tofu market for nearly a decade.

“The demand for tofu in the US is steadily increasing as the flexitarian population grows and the trend of consuming high-protein, plant-based foods instead of meat spreads,” said Cho Gil-soo, CEO of Pulmuone Foods USA.

“By expanding our supply and actively targeting new channels alongside existing retail growth, we plan to further solidify our leadership in the US tofu market.”
