SK hynix is rewarding its employees with a record-breaking performance bonus of 2,964% of their monthly base salary, following the memory chipmaker’s announcement of its highest-ever annual operating profit of 47.2 trillion won ($32.2 billion) in 2025. This substantial bonus reflects the company’s exceptional performance and its commitment to sharing success with its workforce.
The unprecedented payout is a result of SK hynix’s revamped performance-sharing scheme, implemented after labor-management negotiations last September. The scheme allocates 10% of the annual operating profit to employee bonuses with no cap, directly linking employee compensation to company success. This year’s profit-sharing distribution totals approximately 4.5 trillion won.
For an employee with an annual salary of 100 million won, this translates to a bonus of approximately 148.2 million won.
This performance-linked compensation is a direct result of a stellar year driven by the exploding demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), particularly from leading AI companies like Nvidia and Microsoft. Eighty percent of the bonus will be distributed upfront, while the remaining 20% will be deferred over two years.
When combined with additional semiannual productivity incentives, SK hynix’s total performance-based compensation for 2025 reaches an astounding 3,264% of the monthly base salary. This figure is nearly double last year’s combined payout of 1,500%.
The bonus structure overhaul is strategically designed to improve talent retention and align SK hynix’s compensation packages with global industry leaders like TSMC, which also links bonuses to around 10% of operating profit. This aims to attract and retain top talent in the competitive semiconductor industry.
The company’s strategy is proving successful. SK hynix not only surpassed Samsung Electronics in annual operating profit for the first time but also achieved an impressive 58% quarterly operating margin in the fourth quarter of 2025. HBM3E shipments have surged, and production of the next-generation HBM4 has already commenced. SK Hynix’s success is fueled by its leading position in the HBM market.
To further enhance long-term employee engagement, SK hynix has launched employee stock ownership options and implemented enhanced retirement fund incentives.
