Seventeen’s Dino is set to drop his highly anticipated first solo EP, “Gilboard,” on August 3rd, Pledis Entertainment officially announced. This marks a significant milestone for the youngest member of the global K-pop sensation.
The EP introduces Dino’s unique persona, ‘Pi Cheolin,’ a vibrant 1990s-era producer and the fictional CEO of ‘Bong’ K-pop agency. This captivating character has been meticulously developed through Dino’s diverse content and past performances, building excitement for ‘Gilboard’ and its distinct concept.
The title “Gilboard” itself is a clever fusion, blending the Chinese character ‘gil’ (meaning auspicious) with ‘board,’ referencing the iconic U.S. Billboard music chart. This innovative name harks back to an unofficial but powerful ’90s music ranking system. During that era, a song’s true popularity was often gauged by how frequently street vendors, selling bootleg cassette tapes, would blast it from large speakers to draw in crowds. This grassroots ‘street chart’ was widely considered a more authentic measure of a track’s success than traditional broadcast rankings or official album sales figures, reflecting a genuine connection with the public.
According to Pledis Entertainment, “Gilboard” encapsulates Dino’s ambitious vision: to “transform the streets into a vibrant stage and ignite nationwide excitement.” Beyond the musical aspect, the title also carries a heartfelt message, conveying hope that “everyone’s lives will be filled with good fortune,” resonating with fans and the general public alike.
