Get ready for a compelling historical drama as Netflix gears up to release “The Generals,” a highly anticipated film delving into the lives of two pivotal figures in Korean history. With the working title “The Generals,” this powerful narrative is based on the true story of late former President Roh Tae-woo. Portrayed by Netflix as a “man who has always stood just to the side of absolute power,” Roh served as South Korea’s 13th president from February 1988 to February 1993, offering a unique perspective on a significant era.
The star-studded cast features Son Suk-ku in the leading role of former President Roh Tae-woo. Joining him is acclaimed actor Ha Jung-woo, who will portray the formidable late former President Chun Doo-hwan. Chun, described by Netflix as “the dictator” who wielded “absolute power and authority” during his rule from September 1980 to February 1988, sets the stage for a gripping on-screen dynamic. Ha Jung-woo brings a wealth of experience to the project, having previously collaborated with the film’s director on multiple successful ventures, including “The Unforgiven” (2005), “Nameless Gangster: Rules of Time” (2012), and “Narco-Saints” (2022).
Further strengthening the ensemble, the cast includes “Revolver” star Ji Chang-wook, taking on the role of a military academy junior whom Roh views as a constant challenge. Additionally, Hyun Bong-sik, known for his work in “The Match,” will appear as a mutual friend to both Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-woo, adding another layer to the intricate relationships depicted in the film. While excitement builds for this significant Netflix Korean film, the official release date for “The Generals” has yet to be announced.
