K-pop sensation KickFlip is back with their highly anticipated fourth EP, “My First Kick,” following last year’s cheerful ‘My First Flip.’ The group reveals this new record delves deeper into the narrative of youthful emotions and the often-awkward phases of new beginnings.
This captivating seven-track album features the already popular prereleased single ‘Twenty,’ alongside other exciting additions like ‘Stup!d,’ ‘Scroll,’ ‘Roar,’ and ‘My Direction,’ offering a diverse listening experience for fans.
At a recent press showcase in Seoul for ‘My First Kick,’ KickFlip’s frontman Kyehoon, a key contributor to the main track’s writing and composition, characterized it as ‘a bold and playful anthem. It perfectly encapsulates the universal desire to be noticed, even if that means daring to stand out in a crowd.’
Addressing questions about KickFlip’s distinctive rock-based sound, Kyehoon clarified that the group remains committed to musical exploration and plans to continue experimenting with various genres.
He elaborated, ‘While rock elements have been a significant part of our sound, we’re eager to challenge ourselves by exploring diverse genres and fresh concepts, constantly pushing our creative boundaries.’
Kyehoon further revealed that the EP thoughtfully chronicles the members’ personal transition into their 20s. ‘For the first time since our debut, every member actively participated in the songwriting process,’ he shared. ‘We aimed to authentically express the fresh perspectives and complex emotions characteristic of young adults in their early twenties. This continuous drive to embrace challenges, even with the risk of setbacks, truly embodies the spirit of KickFlip.’
During the compelling showcase, member Minje made a significant personal announcement, confirming his recent decision to relinquish his dual citizenship with New Zealand. ‘I committed to retaining my South Korean nationality,’ Minje stated, ‘as my intention is to continue dedicating my efforts to my career here in Korea.’ He emphasized that this important decision was made without any hesitation.
Fans can mark their calendars: KickFlip’s ‘My First Kick’ EP will be officially available for streaming across all major platforms starting at 6 p.m. Monday.
