The acclaimed South Korean film “Inside Men,” directed by Woo Min-ho and featuring the stellar cast of Lee Byung-hun, Cho Seung-woo, and Baek Yoon-sik, is getting a prequel trilogy. The original movie, based on Yoon Tae-ho’s popular webtoon, captivated audiences and became a box-office hit in 2015, drawing over 7 million viewers.
The upcoming trilogy will delve into the past, serving as a prequel set in the turbulent late 1980s – a period before the events depicted in the initial film, which took place in the 2010s.
The prequel will explore the origins of the powerful and corrupt cartel portrayed in “Inside Men” – a network of influential politicians, wealthy business tycoons, ruthless prosecutors, and dangerous gangsters who dominate modern South Korean society.
The ambitious project will be co-directed by Kim Min-beom and Kim Jin-seok. Kim Min-beom’s prior experience includes serving as assistant director on notable films like “12.12: The Day” (2023) and “Flu” (2013). Kim Jin-seok is known for adapting the Disney+ original series “Made in Korea.”
Hive Media announced that the first two installments of the “Inside Men” prequel trilogy will be filmed concurrently this year, with the third film scheduled for production next year. Production for the first two parts is slated to commence in the first half of the year, pending final casting decisions.
