Can This Love Be Translated? Netflix Top Weekly Film

SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Yonhap) — The new Korean romantic comedy series, “Can This Love Be Translated?,” has soared to the top of Netflix’s weekly global non-English TV show chart, the streaming platform announced Wednesday.

The 12-episode K-drama captivated audiences, amassing 9 million views for the week ending January 25th. This impressive performance propelled it from its previous No. 2 position, surpassing the popular Korean dating reality show, “Single’s Inferno: Season 5,” which garnered 4.5 million views. “Can This Love Be Translated?” is quickly becoming a must-watch for fans of international romance series.

Starring the talented Kim Seon-ho and Go Youn-jung, the series follows the heartwarming romance between Cha Mu-hee (Go), an actress who unexpectedly achieves global superstardom, and Ju Ho-jin (Kim), a highly skilled multilingual translator. Despite his fluency in six languages, including Italian, English, and Japanese, Ju Ho-jin finds himself struggling to understand the complex language of emotions as he navigates his growing feelings for Cha Mu-hee. The show offers a fresh and engaging take on the romantic comedy genre, exploring themes of communication and connection.

The drama is penned by the acclaimed Hong Sisters, the collective pen name of Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran. This renowned writing duo is celebrated for their numerous successful K-dramas, including fan favorites such as “Master’s Sun” (2013), “Hotel del Luna” (2019), and “Alchemy of Souls” (2022-23). Their signature blend of humor, heartfelt moments, and compelling storytelling is evident throughout “Can This Love Be Translated?,” making it a worthwhile addition to their impressive filmography.

The popularity of Korean dramas on Netflix continues, with two additional series securing spots in the top 10. SBS TV’s romantic drama “No Tail to Tell” landed at No. 5, while tvN’s office drama “Undercover Miss Hong” claimed the No. 6 position, attracting 2 million and 1.9 million views respectively.
