BTS has released a captivating music video teaser for “2.0,” a B-side track from their highly anticipated fifth studio album, “Arirang,” on Wednesday.
The teaser video draws inspiration from the iconic 2003 film “Oldboy” by director Park Chan-wook, offering fans a compelling and intriguing preview that has amplified excitement surrounding the full music video release.
The teaser is set in a gritty, dimly lit corridor and elevator. The video begins with a shot of a long hallway occupied by rough-looking figures, creating a sense of tension and mystery. As the elevator doors open on the second floor, the BTS members emerge, sharply dressed in tailored suits. Some hold newspapers, while others carry quirky props like a back scratcher, adding an element of the unexpected.
Intriguingly, the newspaper headlines visible in the teaser reference the track’s title, featuring phrases such as “The launch of a brand new 2.0 … complete strategy overhaul” and “Hidden code behind 2.0 discovered.” These headlines allude to BTS’s transition into a new era, particularly following their nearly four-year hiatus, during which the members experienced individual growth and change. The song title symbolizes the next chapter in the band’s evolving musical journey.
The teaser culminates with a striking visual as a hand lowers a newspaper to reveal RM sporting sunglasses, reminiscent of the iconic character Oh Dae-su from “Oldboy,” adding another layer of intrigue and cinematic influence to the video.
“2.0,” is a B-side track from “Arirang,” blending hip-hop and trap elements with an experimental and innovative rhythm. It serves as a nod to the group’s “BTS 2.0” era, symbolizing a new and improved version of the group. BTS has previously described the album as a means to introduce their newly updated musical identities, which reflect a fresh start, artistic growth, and a revitalized sense of direction for the future.
Showing its immediate impact, on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated April 4, “2.0” debuted at No. 50. In addition, 13 other tracks from “Arirang” made it to the chart, including the lead track “Swim” which debuted at No. 1.
Since its release, “Arirang” has achieved significant success on global music charts. The album and its lead single both simultaneously reached the top spot on the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts, respectively. This impressive feat marks the group’s first simultaneous No. 1 on both charts since 2020.
With this latest Billboard achievement, BTS now boasts an impressive seven No. 1 hits on the Hot 100 chart and holds the top spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
