Global K-pop leader SM Entertainment is expanding its philanthropic efforts in Southeast Asia with a new partnership with UNICEF to benefit children in Indonesia, the company announced Monday. This initiative underscores SM Entertainment’s commitment to social responsibility and global citizenship.
SM Entertainment formalized the agreement with the Korean Committee for UNICEF at the UNICEF Indonesia office in Jakarta on Friday. The collaboration focuses on empowering Indonesian girls and fostering environmentally sustainable school environments, creating a healthier and more equitable learning space for all.
This marks the fourth collaborative project between SM Entertainment and UNICEF Korea since their initial partnership in 2015. Previous successful projects included initiatives in Vietnam and the Philippines, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to improving the lives of children across the region.
As part of the agreement, SM Entertainment will fund the installation of gender-segregated, modern toilet facilities and implement water quality monitoring systems in 60 Indonesian schools by 2028. This crucial infrastructure improvement will contribute to improved hygiene and sanitation for thousands of students.
The signing ceremony saw the presence of key figures, including SM Entertainment’s Chief Global Officer Choi Jung-min, UNICEF Korea Secretary-General Cho Mi-jin, and UNICEF Indonesia Deputy Representative Jean Lokenga, highlighting the significance of the partnership.
Adding a touch of star power, members of SM Entertainment’s rising girl group Hearts2Hearts, Jiwoo and Indonesian member Carmen, also participated in the event, demonstrating their support for the cause.
“It’s a great honor to take part in this meaningful initiative for Indonesian children,” Jiwoo and Carmen shared in a statement released by SM Entertainment. “We hope they can stay healthy and happy at school and will do our best to support their growth.” (Yonhap)
