UNIS 2nd Anniversary: Staying Together [Interview]

Girl group UNIS (유니스) is celebrating their 2nd debut anniversary!

UNIS, comprised of members Jin Hyun-joo, Nana, Jelly Dangca, Kotoko, Bang Yunha, Elisia, Oh Yoona, and Lim Seowon, made their exciting debut into the music scene on March 27, 2024, with their first mini-album, ‘WE UNIS.’ Since then, they have captivated global listeners by establishing their unique team color through music filled with bubbly charm and pleasant energy.

Their achievements over the past two years are remarkable. In their debut year, UNIS swept across various award ceremonies, showcasing their potential by winning an impressive 12 trophies. They have continued to break their own records with each album release, proving their ever-expanding influence.

Most recently, they successfully completed their first-ever US tour, spanning 14 cities. UNIS is imprinting their unique charm around the world with their youthful sensibility and energetic performances. To commemorate their 2nd anniversary, the members shared various stories through their agency, F&F Entertainment.

– The following is the full Q&A in celebration of UNIS’s 2nd Anniversary.

Q. What are your thoughts on celebrating your 2nd debut anniversary?

Jin Hyun-joo: The fact that it’s our 2nd anniversary still doesn’t feel real. I felt new emotions on our 1st anniversary, and it’s just amazing that two years have already passed.

Nana: There have been so many precious and unforgettable moments. We were able to come this far thanks to our members, EverAfter (official fan club name), and the many people who always help us. Thank you sincerely.

Jelly Dangca: Every effort we’ve made feels valuable. I feel lucky to have met the members and to have spent this time together. It’s an even more special 2nd anniversary because our beloved EverAfter is with us.

Kotoko: I always feel like time flies by so fast. Maybe it’s because we’ve made so many memories with the members and EverAfter, but the number ‘2’ feels very significant.

Bang Yunha: It feels like our ‘SUPERWOMAN’ promotions were just the other day, but it’s already our 2nd anniversary. It’s hard to believe, and I feel so proud and impressed with our members who have worked so hard over the past two years.

Elisia: I keep thinking about all the time I’ve spent with the members, sharing the ups and downs. I’m so proud of our eight members, and I want to make many more happy memories in the future.

Oh Yoona: I think I’ve grown a lot, laughing together with the members and EverAfter. I’m looking forward to the many days to come and I’m happy.

Lim Seowon: It feels like the past few years are flashing before my eyes. I want to tell myself, our members, and EverAfter that we’ve worked so hard to get here, and thank you so much.

Q. Looking back on the past two years, what is the most memorable moment?

Jin Hyun-joo: The moment we won first place on a music show with ‘SWICY’ is the most memorable. ‘SWICY’ is a song that I’m particularly attached to among UNIS’s songs. The moment I received a trophy for my favorite song remains a happy memory that is hard to express in words.

Kotoko: The first thing that comes to mind is our debut day. Everything was new and unfamiliar, but it was our first start as UNIS, so the excitement and nervousness of that day are still vivid.

Jelly Dangca: There have been so many special moments, but I will never forget the first time I visited my hometown with the members. The Philippine EverAfter welcomed us with such enthusiastic cheers. It was a time when I could feel with my whole body that we were receiving so much love.

Q. Is there a moment or episode where you felt that you had become stronger as a team?

Nana: I think the team naturally becomes closer by spending the most time together and giving each other opinions. UNIS has also become stronger as genuine support and silent consideration for each other have accumulated.

Bang Yunha: Before I knew it, the moments when we naturally joke around with each other and make each other laugh have increased significantly. I think that a relationship where we can laugh and enjoy ourselves comfortably at any time is the power that makes UNIS stronger.

Lim Seowon: I felt it especially during our recent US tour. On stage, we focused on our respective roles, but also took the time to check on each other’s condition and take care of each other meticulously. I was impressed by the deep trust we have for each other, which has made the team even stronger.

Q. UNIS has broken career highs with each album release and has been active on the global stage. In particular, ‘SWICY’ and ‘Spring Rain’ have been receiving a lot of love from the public. How do you feel about this?

Jin Hyun-joo: I’m spending happy days recently, realizing that people are loving ‘Spring Rain’ a lot. I always thought it would be nice if UNIS’s songs became representative songs that come to mind every season, and I feel like I’ve gotten one step closer to that dream as ‘Spring Rain’ is receiving a lot of love this spring.

Elisia: I really wanted UNIS’s music, not just the title track but also the B-sides, to be loved a little more. I’m happy and grateful that I was able to introduce UNIS’s unique music to more people through this opportunity.

Oh Yoona: I’m proud that the group UNIS seems to have been imprinted more clearly on the public. These days, I’m feeling a surge of passion to show you a better stage in the future so that I can repay the love you’re sending us.

Q. UNIS’s music is known for being full of bubbly charm and energy, making people feel good just by listening to it. Among the many songs, which song would you recommend that more people listen to?

Nana: There are so many good songs, not just the title tracks but also the B-sides. Among them, I really hope you listen to ‘Datin’ Myself’ at least once. When I listen to this song, I feel a sense of warmth. The lyrics are so beautiful that I gain a lot of strength every time I listen to it.

Kotoko: ‘See You In My Dreams’ is also a beautiful song from the melody to the lyrics, without exception. In particular, the phrase ‘I’ll always be by your side’ is so heartwarming that it makes me want to listen to it again and again.

Lim Seowon: I think ‘SWICY’ has become a representative song that shows UNIS’s identity. I was able to gain a lot of experience and grow through this activity, so it’s a song that I’m personally very attached to. I hope many people will spend a vibrant spring listening to ‘SWICY’.

Q. What would you like to say to the members who have been running together so far?

Jin Hyun-joo: UNIS! Thank you for following the words of a lacking leader for two years and growing up so well. I hope we can continue to trust each other and move forward well, just like now.

Nana: Our members, just being by my side is such a reliable source of strength. Let’s continue to make many happy and precious memories together, just like now.

Jelly Dangca: I’m so proud of how wonderfully you’ve grown. I sincerely hope that you will achieve your goals one by one within the UNIS framework.

Kotoko: I think the reason I was able to grow without giving up is because the members were always by my side. I want to tell you that I’m grateful for being with me. Let’s all live happily together.

Bang Yunha: Time seems slow, but it’s already our 2nd anniversary. Just like we’ve done so well so far, I hope we can continue to laugh a lot and walk our own path in a healthy way.

Elisia: When we’re together, the laughter never stops, so I feel even more precious. Our members are always in my heart. I want to be together forever in the future.

Oh Yoona: Thanks to the members who have always held each other firmly, I was able to run happily without getting tired for the past two years. Let’s make a lot of fun memories in the future.

Lim Seowon: Members, you’ve worked so hard for the past two years. Let’s continue to be each other’s strength and grow into even more amazing idols. UNIS, I love you.

Q. What are your new goals or dreams that you want to achieve in 2026?

Jelly Dangca: I think I’ll be happy enough if we can continue to be together without changing, just like now. As UNIS, my biggest wish is to cherish every moment I spend with the members on stage and off camera, and to move forward together until the end.

Bang Yunha: I want to show you all the charms that UNIS can show in the future. I want to give you a pleasant surprise through various and different appearances, saying, ‘UNIS also had this charm.’

Elisia: I want to promote UNIS to more places this year. I would be so happy if more people become new EverAfter and join us.

Q. A word to EverAfter, who always sends love and support.

Jin Hyun-joo: You know that UNIS was able to grow so much over the past two years thanks to EverAfter, right? Thank you so much for always loving us generously, and I love you!

Nana: Thank you so much for always being a great source of strength for us. I want to make more memories together and be together for a long, long time in the future. I always love you!

Jelly Dangca: I thought I had expressed my feelings to you a lot, but I still don’t think I can fully express this gratefulness. Thank you sincerely for always being by our side and making our dreams come true one by one.

Kotoko: EverAfter are really precious people to UNIS. Your support is always a great source of strength. Thank you so, so much for giving us so much love and energy, and I hope we can be together forever. I love you!
