BTS Achieves Another Career High with ‘ARIRANG’!
BTS (방탄소년단) has reached another career milestone! The phenomenal sales of their 5th full-length album, ‘ARIRANG’, prove their unwavering global popularity and influence even after a 3-year and 9-month hiatus.
According to Hanteo Chart, a Korean music sales tracking website, ‘ARIRANG,’ released on March 20th, surpassed 4,169,464 copies in first-week sales (initial chodong), setting a new personal record for the group. This significantly exceeds the 3.37 million copies sold in the first week for their 4th full-length album, ‘MAP OF THE SOUL : 7,’ released in February 2020.
The new album achieved million-seller status in approximately 10 minutes after its release and sold 3.98 million copies on its first day alone. This made it the best-selling album released in 2026 within a single day, demonstrating the explosive anticipation of music fans worldwide who have been waiting for BTS.
Their dominance on global music streaming platforms is also overwhelming. As of March 21st, ‘ARIRANG’ topped album charts in 102 countries/regions, including the United States, Japan, Germany, and Mexico. To date, the album has reached #1 in a cumulative total of 115 countries/regions, confirming the global ‘ARIRANG’ craze. Notably, the album recorded the highest number of streams among all BTS albums on its first day of release. Simultaneously, BTS became the most-streamed artist on Apple Music on that day. The title track, ‘SWIM,’ maintained its #1 position on Spotify’s ‘Daily Top Songs Global’ for six consecutive days (March 20-25).
Their influence in the Japanese music market is also unparalleled. ‘ARIRANG’ went straight to #1 on the Oricon ‘Weekly Album Chart’ dated March 30th, marking the group’s 7th chart-topping album. Simultaneously, it recorded the highest weekly sales among all foreign artists this year. The album also swept the ‘Weekly Album Ranking’ and ‘Weekly Digital Album Ranking,’ achieving a triple crown on Oricon’s major charts.
The album, executive produced by Bang Si-hyuk, delves deeply into BTS’s identity and universal emotions encountered throughout life. The title track, ‘SWIM,’ sings about continuing to swim through the waves of life without stopping, conveying a message of deep empathy and comfort to listeners worldwide.
Meanwhile, BTS held a special event, ‘Spotify X BTS: SWIMSIDE,’ at Pier 17 Rooftop in New York on March 24th, meeting with local fans. The audience sang along to the B-side track ‘Body to Body’ while waiting for BTS, and the chanting of the ‘Arirang’ folk song section of the song became a hot topic. Currently, the ‘BTS THE CITY ARIRANG SEOUL’ project is underway in Seoul, transforming the entire city into a venue for cultural and artistic enjoyment, creating a festival for fans and citizens alike.
