Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong has shown his support for employees stationed in the Middle East by sending them gift packages valued at approximately 5 million won (around $3,500). This gesture comes as regional tensions, particularly following the Iran conflict, create concerns for expatriate staff, the company announced Wednesday.
The thoughtful gifts were distributed to approximately 500 employees from Samsung affiliates working in key Middle Eastern countries including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. In addition to the gifts, Lee Jae-yong shared a video message offering encouragement and appreciation to the dedicated workforce remaining in the region.
“I extend my deepest condolences to employees and their families facing unexpected difficulties due to the situation in the Middle East,” Lee said in his message. “I sincerely thank you for your dedication under challenging conditions.”
Following the outbreak of hostilities, Samsung prioritized employee safety by evacuating all personnel from higher-risk areas, specifically Iran and Israel. Furthermore, in other locations, employees who preferred to leave were also provided with relocation options, leaving behind only essential staff to ensure the continuation of operations under existing client contracts.
The majority of the remaining personnel are affiliated with Samsung C&T and Samsung E&A, playing critical roles in supporting large-scale projects across the region. These projects include the development of AI data centers, nuclear power plants, and other vital infrastructure projects.
Each employee received a choice between a cutting-edge Galaxy Book6 Pro laptop or a comprehensive bundle consisting of a Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone and Galaxy Tab S11 tablet. In addition, employees received traditional market vouchers for their family members, most of whom reside in South Korea.
