K-pop sensation BTS is set to captivate audiences worldwide with their highly anticipated comeback concert, emphasizing the symbolic significance of Seoul’s iconic Gwanghwamun Square. The group will perform live for the first time as a full ensemble in over three years at this historical landmark.
Hours before the 8 p.m. show, BTS revealed that the concert’s stage design strategically incorporates the historic Gwanghwamun Gate, highlighting its cultural importance at the heart of the South Korean capital.
“To emphasize the meaning of Gwanghwamun, we’ve constructed an open-frame cube stage that maintains an unobstructed view, allowing both the square and the stage to appear together,” stated leader RM through their agency, BigHit Music. “Our intention was for Gwanghwamun itself to become an integral part of the performance.”
J-Hope elaborated, describing the setup as “a frame containing Gwanghwamun,” suggesting that BTS performing within this visual frame would carry significant symbolic weight for both the group and their dedicated fanbase, ARMY.
The concert coincides with the release of BTS’s fifth studio album, “Arirang,” which dropped on Friday. The group is set to premiere new tracks, including the title track “Swim,” during the concert, which will be streamed globally on Netflix. This performance marks the band’s first appearance together on stage since the “Yet to Come in Busan” concert in October 2022, preceding the members’ commencement of mandatory military service.
RM, who sustained a minor ankle injury during rehearsals, assured fans that he would “adjust his performance according to his condition” but would still “do my best within limits.”
V confirmed the group’s dedication, stating they had “prepared thoroughly and practiced every day,” while Jungkook expressed his hope to deliver a performance “without regrets.”
Jimin added that singing the iconic Korean folk song “Arirang” at the historic venue would capture “the moment when space and music come together.” (Yonhap)
