BTS’s fifth studio album has achieved a remarkable feat, selling 3.98 million copies within the first 24 hours of its release on Friday, according to BigHit Music. This surpasses their own previous record of 3.37 million copies, set by “Map of the Soul: 7” in February 2020.
The album, titled “Arirang,” has dominated iTunes’ Top Albums charts, securing the top spot in 88 countries and regions, including Italy, Mexico, and Sweden, as reported by the label.
Furthermore, the lead single, “Swim,” soared to No. 1 on iTunes Top Songs charts in 90 markets worldwide, including key territories like the United States, Japan, Britain, Germany, and France. Domestically, in South Korea, “Swim” immediately topped major streaming platforms Melon and Bugs, with all tracks from the album making their way into Melon’s Top 100.
Spearheaded by Hybe Chairman Bang Si-hyuk, the album delves into BTS’s identity as a group originating in Korea, exploring universal emotions through their musical evolution. The title track delivers a powerful message of resilience, encouraging listeners to navigate life’s challenges and move forward with strength.
