[The following is a Q&A with Nana Mizuki]
Q. This is your first visit to Korea since your debut. What are your impressions of visiting Korea?
▶ Actually, I have never visited Korea privately, so this is my first time visiting Korea. As Korean culture, including entertainment, fashion, and makeup, is receiving a lot of attention around the world, I am very nervous to perform in front of many audiences with excellent senses. However, I will do my best to show you my own passionate stage.
Q. What kind of image would you like to show to Korean audiences who are experiencing Nana Mizuki’s performance for the first time?
▶ Nana Mizuki’s live performance is a performance where everyone participates. I would be happy if you could let your body move to the music, sing together, jump, and dance.
Q. What special preparations or expectations do you have for this performance?
▶ As the theme of this tour is ‘VISION’, I have prepared a production that specializes in video. I spent time on each song, repeatedly meeting with the video team, and visualizing the images that came to my mind when I created the song. This is the first time I have produced videos for every song, so I hope you will feel the immersion.
Q. What are the differences between Japanese performances and the unique characteristics of overseas performances?
▶ The Japanese performances were held from December last year to January this year, so they were mainly composed of songs that evoke winter. However, since overseas performances are held from February to April, the season is changing to spring and the temperature is rising, so I have prepared uplifting songs. Recently, fans who watched the Hong Kong performance sent me reviews that it consumed more energy than the Japanese performance, so I hope you will take good care of your condition and come and have fun.
Q. You are loved by fans as both a voice actress and a singer. What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing both?
▶ Each activity gives me many challenges and opportunities to open doors to new expressions. As a voice actress, I play various characters and live their lives together, and I come into contact with ways of thinking and ways of looking at things that I would not have known if I had only lived my own life. Also, the range of expression widens when I sing, or it leads to ideas for song production. When I come across a new song, I sometimes discover vocal expressions that I have never had before. The difficult thing is voice management. Sometimes, after a fierce live performance on the weekend, I have to do dubbing recording from Monday morning, so it seems difficult to always maintain the best voice condition.
Q. How has the live concert hall changed as a presence for Nana Mizuki now that you have gone through a long period of activity?
▶ Live is a source of strength for me. This has not changed since my debut. When I exchange energy with the audience, I get tremendous strength, and when I communicate directly and hear vivid voices, I get ideas for the next performance or song production. The concert hall is a special place for me.
Q. What is the most memorable performance you have had so far?
▶ There are so many that I can’t tell you all of them, but among the overseas performances, the most memorable ones are the surprise events prepared by fans at the Taipei, Shanghai, and Singapore performances. They made their own goods and sang my songs in Japanese, and I was sincerely moved by the love the fans sent me.
Q. What are the essential items to maintain your condition during overseas tours?
▶ Good quality sleep is essential to perform with all my might, so I always bring pajamas that I always wear at home. Lavender bath salts are also essential items for expeditions.
Q. What are your future activity plans?
▶ The new animation of ‘Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha’ will be broadcast in July, and I will be in charge of the theme song. Also, in September, the long-awaited full orchestra live ‘LIVE GRACE’ is scheduled. Last year marked the 25th anniversary of my debut as a singer, and I aim to hold a performance at the age of 77, which is the 57th anniversary, and I will continue to run without hesitation.
Q. A word to the domestic fans who have been waiting for your visit to Korea?
▶ I have prepared a really hot set list that includes not only the new album, but also songs that I often sing live and representative songs. I will sing with all my might, so please come and have fun. I’m really looking forward to meeting you.
