Ahead of BTS’s comeback performance, HYBE has requested that the City of Seoul refrain from interpreting the decision to theme the city in red from a “political perspective.”
HYBE, the agency of the global sensation BTS, stated on the 18th, “The red color for the Gwanghwamun Square performance is derived from the key color of the ‘Arirang’ album.” They added, “The City of Seoul is also utilizing the color red at HYBE’s request.”
The agency further emphasized, “We kindly ask that you refrain from excessively interpreting this public cultural event from a political standpoint.”
The City of Seoul is set to illuminate major landmarks across the city, including Namsan Seoul Tower and Lotte World Tower, in red lights to coincide with BTS’s new album release celebration performance at Gwanghwamun Square on the 21st.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government explained, “Regarding the BTS Gwanghwamun comeback, the decision to set the Seoul Welcome Light color to red, rather than BTS’s symbolic purple, was made at the request of the organizer, HYBE.”
Concerning the use of red lighting, which is the concept color of ‘Arirang,’ the City of Seoul stated, “It will appear as if the entire city has transformed into a massive concert stage.”
