“KPop Demon Hunters” has achieved a monumental victory at the 98th Academy Awards in Los Angeles, securing the coveted Best Animated Feature title. The film outperformed formidable contenders including Disney’s “Zootopia 2” and Pixar’s “Elio.”
Co-directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, “KPop Demon Hunters” follows the story of Huntr/x, a group leading a double life. By day, they navigate the demanding world of K-pop stardom; by night, they transform into powerful warriors battling demonic spirits, including the formidable overlord Gwi-Ma and the soul-stealing Saja Boys, to protect the world.
Since its release on June 20th last year, the Sony Pictures Animation film has become a global phenomenon, quickly becoming Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time.
Building on its widespread popularity, “KPop Demon Hunters” also claimed Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at the Golden Globe Awards in January. Furthermore, it made history last month as the first K-pop work to win Best Song Written for Visual Media at the Grammy Awards.
