LG Electronics has announced its participation in the Global 6G Coalition, an initiative spearheaded by Qualcomm Technologies. The announcement was made at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, Spain, marking a significant step in LG’s commitment to strengthening its next-generation telematics capabilities.
This coalition, led by Qualcomm, brings together over 30 leading companies across various sectors, including connected mobility, telecommunications, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and mobile technologies. The collaborative effort aims to explore innovative AI-driven 6G applications, focusing on advancements in devices, data services, and air-to-ground traffic management systems.
Qualcomm also used the event to present its roadmap for the commercialization of 6G technology, projecting a target date of 2029.
LG will play a crucial role as a key partner within the connected mobility segment, concentrating on the development of software-defined and AI-defined vehicles (SDVs). The company’s focus will be on advancing AI-powered infotainment systems, ensuring seamless connectivity between vehicles and mobile, home, and cloud environments, and optimizing high-performance computing (HPC) for SDV platforms.
LG’s vehicle solution division, making its debut at MWC, showcased its cutting-edge smart telematics solutions. With the increasing demand for enhanced in-vehicle connectivity to support autonomous driving and richer infotainment services, LG intends to deepen its collaboration with automakers and telecom operators.
LG has been actively expanding its connected car portfolio under its LG Alphaware software platform, which encompasses in-vehicle entertainment, AI-based user experiences, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
Earlier this year, at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, LG and Qualcomm jointly introduced a generative AI-based HPC system designed for vehicles, along with an on-device AI Cabin Platform. This platform is integrated into the automotive-grade HPC unit, serving as the vehicle’s central processor and highlighting the ongoing collaboration between the two technology leaders.
