Get ready for a dose of romance with Netflix’s upcoming romantic comedy, “Boyfriend on Demand,” starring BLACKPINK’s Jisoo. Jisoo plays Mi-rae, a webtoon producer seeking love in a unique way – through a virtual dating subscription service.
At a press conference held in Seoul on Thursday, director Kim Jung-sik revealed the inspiration behind the series: the intriguing concept of subscribing to romance.
Kim Jung-sik expressed his belief in the idea’s potential, stating, “I believe someone might have already begun developing it somewhere, and the show could offer viewers a chance to experience it in advance.”
“Boyfriend on Demand” is creating significant buzz with its star-studded cast. Joining Jisoo is Seo In-guk as the male lead. Furthermore, audiences can look forward to special appearances from Seo Kang-joon, Lee Jae-wook, Kim Young-dae, Ong Seong-wu, and Lee Soo-hyuk, perfectly aligning with the drama’s premise of offering a diverse selection of “boyfriends” to choose from.
Director Kim Jung-sik, known for his expertise in romance dramas such as “Strong Girl Nam-soon” (2023) and “No Gain No Love” (2024), praised Jisoo’s dedication to her role.
“Jisoo appears in over 95 percent of the show and she worked incredibly hard despite the vast range of characters and settings,” he shared.
Jisoo expressed a strong connection to her character, Mi-rae, relating to her introverted nature and reluctance to embrace change.
“When I first read the script, the premise didn’t feel like a distant future at all. Mi-rae and I have a lot in common — our age, our worries,” Jisoo explained. “Personality-wise, too, we share a lot, like being afraid of challenges and change.”
Marking her debut in the romantic comedy genre with this 10-part series, Jisoo expressed her aspiration to establish herself as the “queen of rom-coms.”
Don’t miss the premiere of “Boyfriend on Demand,” releasing next Friday on Netflix!
