Till Scheer, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group Korea, has been re-elected as Chairman of the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA) for an unprecedented third consecutive term. The announcement was made by KAIDA on Thursday.
KAIDA confirmed Scheer’s election as the 17th Chairman during a general meeting held earlier today at a prominent Seoul hotel. Having successfully led the association as the 15th and 16th Chairman, he is set to continue his leadership for another two-year term.
Scheer brings a wealth of experience from the automotive industry, with extensive involvement in both European and Asian markets, including Hong Kong, China, and Japan. Prior to his role at Volkswagen Group Korea, which he assumed in 2021, he served as Chairman of the Japan Automobile Importers Association. He has been at the helm of KAIDA since 2022.
During his leadership, KAIDA has prioritized strengthening communication and fostering collaboration with the Korean government, as well as related domestic and international automotive organizations. This focus comes amidst rapid technological advancements and the introduction of new regulations related to the shift towards eco-friendly and future mobility solutions.
The association has formalized policy seminars, broadened the availability of English translations for complex automotive regulations to better support foreign automakers, and established memorandums of understanding with government agencies. Furthermore, KAIDA has reinforced its position as a key provider of industry intelligence by developing a comprehensive automotive database.
In 2025, KAIDA will celebrate its 30th anniversary, marking a significant milestone of 300,000 newly registered imported passenger vehicles. Eco-friendly vehicles have become a substantial component of new registrations, with electric vehicles accounting for 29.7 percent and hybrids representing 56.7 percent of the total annual passenger car registrations.
Looking ahead, Scheer stated his intention to further enhance external partnerships and expand KAIDA’s influence, working alongside the newly appointed board to champion innovation, diversity, and sustainable growth within the Korean automotive industry.
