VERIVERY’s Kangmin is preparing to make his solo debut!
According to an exclusive report by Star News on February 16th, Kangmin is confirmed to release his solo album on March 23rd.
Kangmin debuted in January 2019 as a member of VERIVERY, a 7-member boy group launched by Jellyfish Entertainment. In July of last year, marking his 7th year since debut, he took on a new challenge by participating in Mnet’s global boy group audition program ‘Boys Planet’ (‘BoPlanet 2’). Despite consistently ranking high in the early stages of ‘BoPlanet 2’, he ultimately finished in 9th place during the final ranking announcement, narrowly missing the opportunity to debut.
Therefore, as soon as news of CJ ENM producing and FNC Entertainment managing a spin-off group from ‘BoPlanet 2’ broke last month, some fans expressed their desire for Kangmin to join. Appearing to be aware of this, Kangmin indirectly hinted at not joining the spin-off group in a fan community post, saying, “I keep seeing comments like ‘Why did he even go on the show if this was going to happen?’ I went on to debut. But I got eliminated, what can I do? I have to choose my future and do my best. I really want to stop talking about this, I just hope you can like me for who I am. I will work hard to be loved as Yoo Kangmin from now on.”
However, some fans continued to urge Kangmin to join the spin-off group, and Kangmin eventually clarified through a SNS live broadcast, “I’ve checked everything and I haven’t received any official offers.” It is also known that Kangmin had already renewed his contract with Jellyfish Entertainment before appearing on ‘BoPlanet 2’.
Having gained a large fanbase through his appearance on ‘BoPlanet 2’, anticipation is high for what kind of unique charm Kangmin will showcase as a solo artist, and how he will take off as a unique multi-talented entertainer.
