Katseye, the girl group formed through a collaboration between South Korea’s Hybe and U.S. label Geffen Records, has been recognized by TIME magazine for their potential impact on the arts and entertainment landscape. They were named to TIME’s “Post Next 50” list, highlighting emerging talents poised to shape the future.
The group previously earned Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance earlier this year.
TIME acknowledged Katseye’s international composition, noting, “With members hailing from three continents, the group is an international spin on the K-pop group format that’s been popularized in recent years by acts like BTS, Blackpink, Twice and NewJeans.” This was stated in an article titled “Katseye wants to be the biggest girl group on the planet.”
The article further suggests that Katseye is evolving the K-pop formula, adding, “But (the group members) are breaking out of the K-pop mold with a winsome emphasis on individuality and authenticity.”
Katseye, created through Hybe’s global audition project “The Debut: Dream Academy,” officially debuted in the U.S. in June 2024. They quickly captured the attention of global music fans, entering the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart with the songs “Gnarly” and “Gabriela.”
The group consists of six members: Lara Raj, Sophia Laforteza, Daniela Avanzini, Manon Bannerman, Yoonchae Jeung, and Megan Skiendiel.
