Get ready for another high-stakes adventure! The highly anticipated Korean action-comedy sequel, “Okay! Madam 2,” is set to thrill audiences, with K-pop sensation and actress Choi Soo-young stepping into a pivotal new role. Following the success of the 2020 hit “Okay! Madam,” which saw Uhm Jung-hwa and Park Sung-woong as an ordinary couple battling terrorists on their first international trip, the original beloved cast members Lee Sang-yoon and Bae Jung-nam are also returning for this exciting new installment.
This time, the action unfolds aboard a luxurious cruise ship, introducing fresh faces and intriguing characters to the mix. Choi Soo-young takes on the dynamic role of Anya, a charismatic criminal ring leader, promising a captivating performance. Joining her are Ryeoun as a charming cruise ship magician and Choi Jin-joo as Sun-a, the chief of the cruise ship tour company.
Choi Soo-young expressed her excitement about portraying Anya, a villainous character she’s crafted to be truly unique. “While there seem to be quite many female villain roles, there are not many truly distinct ones,” Choi shared at a recent press conference. “I was thrilled when I was offered the part, and I wanted to make her into a character that is not cliche.”
She further elaborated on her vision, stating, “I wanted to create a female villain that possesses both charisma and humor.” Choi actively collaborated with Director Lee Cheol-ha, suggesting ideas to infuse Anya with a playful and witty personality, thanking him for his receptiveness and for reflecting her creative input in the final character.
Director Lee Cheol-ha enthusiastically named Choi Soo-young as his top choice for the role, highlighting the special chemistry she shares with lead actress Uhm Jung-hwa. Both acclaimed performers also boast a common background as singers, adding an intriguing layer to their on-screen dynamic.
Uhm Jung-hwa reprises her role as Mi-young, the formidable former secret agent, revealing that her passion for filming action scenes has only intensified with the sequel. “I was excited there were even more action scenes in the sequel,” Uhm stated, emphasizing the collective effort. “All the actors came together as one for every action scene. … I felt a deep sense of fulfillment. It made me fall in love with action scenes even more.”
Having made a significant impact during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the cast expressed immense joy at reuniting for “Okay! Madam 2.” Their camaraderie was palpable, with playful hints about future installments already surfacing. Park Sung-woong jokingly mused, “I was so happy to hear that everyone in the first film was coming back and cautiously started wondering whether the third series should take place aboard a submarine or a spaceship to make the sequel bigger, since this one is set on a cruise ship.”
Bae Jung-nam echoed the sentiment, sharing his positive experience. “It was my first time doing a sequel, and I loved it. Everything felt so comfortable this time around,” he remarked. He even pitched ideas for a third film, suggesting, “Maybe the third film could take place abroad. I think it would be great to film it overseas. What about setting it on a train — maybe the Eurostar?”
Mark your calendars! The exciting Korean film “Okay! Madam 2” is set for release on August 12. Don’t miss this thrilling action-comedy on the big screen!
