Mirae Asset Global Investments Celebrates 20 Years of Groundbreaking ETF Business Growth

SEOUL – Mirae Asset Global Investments proudly announced the 20th anniversary of its exchange-traded fund (ETF) business, an instrumental division that has become a core growth engine for the global asset manager. This significant milestone highlights two decades of innovation and market leadership within the investment landscape.

The journey began in June 2006 with the launch of its pioneering ETF products, the Tiger Semiconductor ETF and the Tiger Banking ETF, firmly establishing ETFs within Mirae Asset’s diverse investment portfolio. Since then, Mirae Asset has continuously expanded its offerings, building a robust lineup that includes products tracking major US equity benchmarks, alongside specialized AI and semiconductor investment themes.

In the South Korean market, Mirae Asset Global Investments stands as a leader with one of the industry’s most extensive collections of semiconductor ETFs. Its flagship Tiger Semiconductor Top10 ETF, focusing on leading domestic chipmakers like Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, has amassed approximately 12 trillion won ($7.8 billion) in assets under management as of Wednesday. This impressive figure solidifies its position as the largest semiconductor-focused ETF available in the Korean market, underscoring its dominance.

Responding to surging investor interest in cutting-edge AI-related investments, Mirae Asset has strategically focused on further broadening its innovative semiconductor investment solutions to meet evolving market demands.

Beyond its strong domestic presence, the asset manager also commands an impressive portfolio of US-targeting ETF products, catering to global investor demand for international exposure.

A testament to its long-term vision and consistent performance, the Tiger US Nasdaq 100 ETF, the first ETF in Korea to track a major US stock index, has seen its share price soar from 10,000 won at listing to over 200,000 won. Furthermore, the Tiger US S&P 500 ETF leads as the largest ETF targeting the S&P 500 index in Asia by assets, having attracted over 3 trillion won in net purchases from retail investors this year alone, demonstrating strong investor confidence.

Under the strategic leadership of Mirae Asset Group Global Strategy Officer Park Hyeon-joo, the company significantly accelerated its international expansion by acquiring leading ETF manager Global X. This pivotal acquisition has propelled Mirae Asset’s global footprint, with ETF assets under management across key markets including Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, and the US now totaling 428 trillion won. This impressive scale firmly positions Mirae Asset as the world’s 11th-largest ETF manager by assets.

Lee Jun-yong, Vice Chair of Mirae Asset Global Investments, commented on this significant anniversary, stating, “While the past two decades have been dedicated to expanding the immense potential of Mirae Asset’s ETF business, our future vision for the next 20 years is to evolve into a truly global investment platform. This platform will provide unparalleled access to innovative companies and diverse asset classes across the globe, empowering investors worldwide.”

“We extend our deepest gratitude to the loyal investors who have journeyed with us throughout this remarkable growth. We remain steadfast in our commitment to upholding investors’ trust as our most invaluable asset, continuously striving to deliver truly differentiated and superior investment solutions that meet their evolving needs,” Lee added.
