BUSAN – The vibrant city of Busan recently transformed into a spectacular red celebration for global K-pop sensation BTS, marking the group’s highly anticipated return for their first concert in four years and their 13th debut anniversary. Over the weekend, Busan’s iconic landmarks, picturesque beaches, and night sky were illuminated as part of the grand “BTS The City Arirang — Busan” event.
This immersive “BTS The City Arirang” experience extended the group’s ongoing “Arirang” world tour into Korea’s second-largest city. Key structures like Gwangan Bridge, Busan Harbor Bridge, and Suyeonggang Human Bridge glowed red, symbolizing the core color of BTS’ latest album, “Arirang.” Meanwhile, media facades at prominent locations such as Busan Station, Gwangbokro Fountain Square, Grand Josun Busan, and the Busan Cinema Center captivated fans with BTS music videos and themed visuals.
Haeundae Beach became a significant hub of activity, featuring a massive sand artwork emblazoned with the slogan “Keep Swimming,” drawing countless fans eager for photos. Just as impressive, Gwangalli Beach hosted a mesmerizing 1,000-drone light show on both Friday and Saturday nights. These drones brilliantly formed images inspired by “Arirang” tracks like “Swim,” “Normal,” “Hooligan,” and “Body to Body,” alongside beloved fan favorites such as “Magic Shop” and “Mikrokosmos.” The crowd erupted in thunderous cheers as the faces of the seven BTS members illuminated the night sky.

For ARMYs who journeyed from across the globe, this citywide BTS celebration transcended a mere promotional event. It served as a powerful emotional build-up to BTS’ first Busan concert since 2022’s “Yet To Come in Busan,” which was notably the group’s final performance before all seven members began their mandatory military service. The reunion concert held immense meaning for fans.
Andriana Iun, a Russian fan who relocated to Seoul two years ago, shared that BTS significantly influenced her decision to move to Korea.
“Back in Russia, I was having a really tough time because of my studies and pressure, and watching BTS videos helped me have fun again,” she told The Korea Herald on Saturday at Haeundae Beach. “That was the beginning of my story with them.”
Iun described BTS’ triumphant return to Busan as another monumental moment for the beloved K-pop group.
“I think history is going to be made again,” she remarked.
Across Busan, the city showcased dazzling BTS-themed visuals on its most recognizable landmarks, including Grand Josun Busan and Gwangbok-ro. Major bridges like Gwangan Bridge, Busan Harbor Bridge, and Suyeonggang Human Bridge were prominently bathed in red, the signature color of the “Arirang” era, creating an unforgettable atmosphere for visitors.
Upon arrival, visitors to Busan were immediately immersed in the BTS experience, starting with themed installations at Busan Station. A dedicated welcome center at the Busan Eurasia Platform offered convenient photo zones, luggage storage, delivery services, and essential tourism information for fans attending the concert.

Haeundae Beach continued to be a central point for the festivities. Beyond the giant “Keep Swimming” sand sculpture, interactive programs allowed fans to leave heartfelt congratulatory messages for BTS and commemorate the group’s 13th debut anniversary. A charming beachside “Love Song Lounge” offered fans a relaxing space to unwind while enjoying BTS’ iconic music.
The “BTS The City Arirang — Busan” festival extended its reach beyond fan experiences through innovative collaborations with local businesses. Food and beverage brands throughout Busan introduced special BTS-themed menu items, while accommodations, transportation services, and retail spaces actively participated in the celebratory campaign, boosting the local economy.
For many devoted fans, these celebrations carried profound added meaning, coinciding with BTS’ 13th debut anniversary and the eagerly awaited reunion of the group following their military service.
“I wasn’t able to watch the first Busan concert, so it means a lot that I’m here now and get to watch all seven (bandmates). We’ve been waiting for them for a long time. It’s exciting to see them together,” Filipino fan Deriz Quintana shared with The Korea Herald on Saturday at Busan Asiad Main Stadium. “There was fear that maybe after the military it wouldn’t be the same. But they’re here, they’re together and it’s much better than it ever was.”
By seamlessly integrating live concerts, vibrant tourism initiatives, local business engagement, and global fan culture, “BTS The City Arirang — Busan” successfully transformed the entire city into an unparalleled cultural festival. This monumental event brought together residents and visitors from every corner of the world in an unforgettable celebration of BTS’ triumphant return to Busan.
