Hanwha Life Insurance announced Monday the highly anticipated opening of Pompidou Center Hanwha at Seoul’s landmark 63 Building this Thursday. This launch marks a significant milestone in a broader initiative to transform the iconic Yeouido skyscraper into a vibrant cultural and lifestyle destination.

This ambitious project aligns with Hanwha’s strategic vision to elevate the 63 Building beyond its traditional identity as a financial office tower. The aim is to establish it as a dynamic mixed-use hub, offering unparalleled experiences in art, upscale dining, diverse retail, and leisure activities in the heart of Seoul.

The creation of Pompidou Center Hanwha stems from an exclusive partnership between the Hanwha Foundation and Paris’ Centre Pompidou, globally recognized as one of the foremost institutions for modern and contemporary art.

Situated within a newly renovated annex directly adjacent to the main 63 Building, the museum boasts a sophisticated design by acclaimed French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. Wilmotte’s distinguished portfolio includes the renovation of the Louvre Museum, the Élysée Palace, and Incheon International Airport.

Hanwha highlighted that the venue’s design is centered around a unique “box of light” concept. This innovative approach allows abundant natural light to permeate the galleries during the day, creating an inviting atmosphere, while at night, the illuminated structure becomes a beacon, enhancing Yeouido’s cityscape.

The company anticipates that this new art museum will firmly establish the 63 Building as a major cultural landmark in Seoul, significantly boosting its appeal to both domestic and international visitors exploring the Yeouido district.

“Our goal was not merely to renovate an aging structure but to forge a cutting-edge platform that seamlessly integrates art, culture, contemporary lifestyle, and the vibrant pulse of the city,” stated a Hanwha Life official.

Complementing the new museum, Hanwha has also revitalized the building’s renowned observatory, now reopened as “63 Sky Picnic.” This revamped attraction offers breathtaking panoramic city views fused with captivating immersive digital content.

Perched approximately 250 meters above ground, the space delivers spectacular 360-degree vistas of Seoul and the serene Han River. Visitors can enjoy an enriched experience through integrated media art installations, dynamic immersive screening rooms, and engaging interactive exhibitions.

The elevated experience extends outdoors with the newly introduced “63 Oudolf Garden,” a serene green space conceptualized by the celebrated Dutch landscape architect Piet Oudolf. His acclaimed works include New York’s High Line and Chicago’s Lurie Garden, bringing a touch of international horticultural artistry to the 63 Building.

Furthermore, Hanwha has completely reimagined the building’s retail and dining landscape, introducing 25 exciting new tenants across a diverse range of food, beverage, and lifestyle categories.

Notable new arrivals include the popular Hawaiian coffee and acai bowl brand Island Vintage Coffee, gourmet sandwich specialist Pazac, and the premium ice cream brand Benson, enriching the culinary offerings at the 63 Building.

The expanded lineup also proudly features the first Korean outpost of Tokyo’s highly acclaimed ramen restaurant, Ramenya Shima, alongside the Michelin-recognized Pyongyang cold noodle restaurant Seoryeong. Diners can also explore authentic Korean cuisine at Bistro Sanho, vibrant Thai flavors at Kapom, and exquisite Japanese dining at Gohyeon.

Hanwha confirmed that its flagship buffet restaurant is set to reopen later this year as a premium dining venue, further elevating the gastronomic choices. Additionally, a new European-style wine dining restaurant, offering picturesque views of the Han River, is slated to open its doors by year-end.

Looking ahead, Hanwha Life intends to significantly expand the site with advanced premium wellness facilities and innovative AI-powered content experiences. This ongoing development aims to evolve the 63 Building into what they envision as a cutting-edge, next-generation lifestyle platform for Seoul.

“We are committed to infusing the innovative DNA of the Pompidou Center into the 63 Building, cultivating its future as a premier next-generation lifestyle platform,” reiterated the Hanwha Life official, emphasizing the transformative vision for this iconic Seoul landmark.
