K-pop Icons BTS Return to American Music Awards, Nominated Alongside Global Superstars
Global K-pop phenomenon BTS is making a highly anticipated return to the American Music Awards (AMAs) after a four-year hiatus, poised to once again contend for the prestigious ceremony’s top honor.
Revealed by the AMAs on Wednesday, BTS is confirmed to attend the awards ceremony on May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in vibrant Las Vegas, Nevada. The acclaimed K-pop boy band has earned a coveted nomination for Artist of the Year, placing them in competition with a stellar lineup of global pop superstars: Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga. Notably, BTS made history as the first Korean act to claim this coveted Artist of the Year award in 2021.
Beyond the top honor, BTS has also secured nominations for Best Male K-pop Artist and the highly sought-after Song of the Summer. Their track “Swim,” a standout single from their critically acclaimed fifth studio album “Arirang,” is a strong contender in the latter category.
With an impressive track record, BTS boasts a remarkable total of 12 AMA trophies, encompassing achievements from both their group and individual solo activities. Their AMA journey began in 2018 with a win for Favorite Social Artist, an award they triumphantly claimed for three consecutive years until 2020. Further demonstrating their global impact, BTS was also honored with Tour of the Year in 2019, underscoring their immense concert power worldwide.
BTS notably dominated the Favorite Duo or Group – Pop/Rock category from 2019 to 2022, establishing themselves as the most-awarded act in the category’s history. The year 2021 was particularly momentous, with BTS sweeping three major awards: Artist of the Year, Favorite Duo or Group, and Favorite Pop Song. In 2022, the group also made history as the inaugural winner of Favorite K-pop Artist, a prestigious title later secured by member RM in 2025.
Coinciding with their AMA appearance, BTS is also slated to bring their highly anticipated “BTS World Tour ‘Arirang’ in Las Vegas” to the iconic Allegiant Stadium, with electrifying performances scheduled for May 23-24 and 27-28.
These massive concerts will be complemented by “BTS The City Arirang — Las Vegas,” an ambitious, large-scale citywide project meticulously developed in partnership with the Las Vegas tourism authority. A major highlight of this immersive experience, “Arirang Red Illumination,” promises to transform the city, lighting it up in the signature red color synonymous with the group’s latest groundbreaking album, “Arirang.”
