K-pop sensation BTS is set to make a highly anticipated special appearance at this year’s American Music Awards (AMAs), organizers have confirmed. This marks the global supergroup’s first in-person participation at the prestigious ceremony in nearly five years, generating significant excitement among fans and industry observers alike.
The esteemed South Korean septet will grace the 52nd annual awards show, scheduled for May 25 at the iconic MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. This exciting news comes directly from an official announcement released by the AMAs on Wednesday (US time).
BTS has garnered three nominations, including the coveted top prize of Artist of the Year, alongside nods for Song of the Summer and Best Male K-Pop Artist.
The AMAs hold particular significance for BTS. In 2017, the group made its groundbreaking U.S. television debut at the ceremony with a performance of “DNA,” becoming the first Korean act to perform on the show since its inception in 1974. Since then, BTS has accumulated a remarkable total of 12 AMA trophies, both as a collective and individually. A monumental achievement came in 2021 when BTS became the first Asian act ever to win the prestigious Artist of the Year award.
This year, the acclaimed South Korean group will compete in the fiercely contested top category against an array of global music icons, including Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga.
BTS’ latest chart-topping hit, “Swim,” the lead single from their highly anticipated fifth studio album “Arirang,” impressively secured a nomination for Song of the Summer based on just six days of tracking following its release on March 30. Also contending in this category is “Dracula” (remix), a dynamic collaboration between BLACKPINK’s Jennie and the Australian band Tame Impala.
Other esteemed performers slated for this year’s ceremony include various compelling acts such as K-pop girl group Katseye, rock legend Billy Idol, and country star Riley Green. (Yonhap)
