Global sensation BTS is set to co-headline the highly anticipated Super Bowl-style halftime show at the upcoming World Cup final. Scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the performance was announced by FIFA and Global Citizen, the New York-based international civic organization.
This historic event marks the first time a halftime show will be staged during a World Cup final, aiming to unite global audiences through a unique blend of sports, music, and culture on an international stage.
“It will be a great honor to stand on such a meaningful stage where the world comes together,” BTS shared in a statement released by their agency, BigHit Music. “We believe music is a universal language that delivers hope and unity,” the South Korean group added.
Global Citizen will produce the spectacular show, which is also expected to significantly boost global awareness and fundraising efforts for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. This vital initiative is dedicated to expanding access to education and sports for children in underserved communities worldwide.
The performance, curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, will be broadcast live across the globe. Audiences can also look forward to special appearances from beloved characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets.
BTS has a strong history of collaboration with Global Citizen, having performed at Global Citizen Live in 2021. Furthermore, group member Jungkook showcased his talent at the Global Citizen Festival in 2023 and famously performed “Dreamers,” the official soundtrack of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, during the tournament’s opening ceremony.
In related news, the seven-member K-pop powerhouse is set to make history as the first Korean act to perform at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, California. They will hold concerts on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday (U.S. time).
