Global music sensation Psy recently joined actor Daniel Dae Kim for an insightful discussion on CNN’s newly launched documentary series, “K-Everything,” which premiered on May 9. The episode delved into the profound impact of K-pop music on the world stage.
As the inaugural episode of the four-part series exploring various facets of Korean culture, this segment featured the renowned musician and producer candidly reflecting on the evolution of Korean pop music and his distinguished career.
Psy is widely recognized for profoundly influencing K-pop’s global reach, largely attributed to his monumental 2012 breakout hit, “Gangnam Style.”
Daniel Dae Kim acknowledged Psy’s groundbreaking influence, stating, “You changed the way K-pop was viewed around the world.” The iconic music video for “Gangnam Style” achieved an unprecedented milestone, surpassing 1 billion views on YouTube—a historic first for the platform. While Psy admits he will forever “bask in the success” of the track, he candidly shared that this global phenomenon remains a complex experience for him as a songwriter, feeling both a dream and a nightmare.
Despite these complexities, Psy revealed that he experiences the “pinnacle of happiness” while performing his hugely popular concert series, SummerSwag. Daniel Dae Kim highlighted the immense success of SummerSwag, noting it accounts for over 10 percent of all concert tickets sold annually in Korea.
