Hyundai Mobis proudly announces a groundbreaking development: its new in-house 160-kilowatt Power Electric (PE) system, specifically engineered to power the next generation of mass-market electric vehicles.
This innovative PE system functions as the core EV powertrain, seamlessly integrating the electric motor, inverter, and reduction gear to efficiently convert battery energy into powerful vehicle propulsion.
Delivering an impressive output equivalent to approximately 215 horsepower, this advanced PE system marks a significant leap in performance. Hyundai Mobis engineers achieved a remarkable 16 percent improvement in power density and a nearly 20 percent reduction in overall system volume compared to earlier models.
These substantial performance upgrades are the direct result of Hyundai Mobis’ pioneering innovations, including cutting-edge advanced cooling technology, meticulously optimized electric motor architecture, and state-of-the-art high-efficiency semiconductor-based power modules.
This latest achievement builds upon Hyundai Mobis’ strategic roadmap, following last year’s successful development of a robust 250-kilowatt PE system designed for high-performance battery-powered vehicles. Further solidifying its commitment to comprehensive EV solutions, the company is also on track to launch a compact 120-kilowatt version for small mobility applications in the first half of this year. This strategic expansion will establish a complete EV powertrain lineup catering to all vehicle segments.
Signifying a pivotal strategic shift, Hyundai Mobis is evolving beyond its traditional focus on customer-order based PE system manufacturing. The company has significantly invested in bolstering its core research and development (R&D) capabilities, now enabling it to independently design, engineer, and mass-produce complete, integrated electric drive systems.
A cornerstone of this advanced development process was the emphasis on standardization and modularization. This leading automotive parts manufacturer has implemented a clever strategy of utilizing shared, standardized components across various PE systems, including essential elements like motor stators, inverters, and sophisticated semiconductor-based power modules.
This intelligent modular approach dramatically enhances both scalability and manufacturing efficiency. It allows for the seamless application of the same high-performance platform across diverse electric vehicle models, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming redesigns of the entire drivetrain.
With robust in-house design and mass-production capabilities now firmly established, Hyundai Mobis is strategically positioned to significantly expand its electrification business partnerships with global automakers. Building on its success in securing overseas contracts for advanced battery systems, the company is now actively broadening its comprehensive electrification portfolio to include these integrated drive systems. This strategic move undeniably reinforces Hyundai Mobis’ leadership and elevates its standing as a full-range, innovative EV solutions supplier to the global automotive industry.
