K-pop icon G-Dragon’s agency issued an apology Monday after a stage outfit he wore during a Macao concert sparked controversy due to Dutch phrases with racial and sexual connotations.
Music industry officials confirmed that G-Dragon sported the controversial shirt during his performance at the “K-Spark” concert in Macao on Saturday.
The attire quickly drew condemnation from international fans, highlighting that one of the phrases contained an anti-Black slur and other sexually suggestive wording.
As online criticism intensified, Galaxy Corp., G-Dragon’s agency, formally issued an apology.
“We sincerely apologize for the inclusion of wording that was inappropriate in its social and cultural context,” the agency stated. “Through this incident, the company has once again recognized the paramount importance of meticulous cultural sensitivity and responsible content review.”
“Moving forward, we commit to closely examining and enhancing our internal review and confirmation procedures, especially those related to styling, to operate under significantly more cautious standards.”
