YG Entertainment Unveils Ambitious Next-Gen Plans: New Boy Group Debut, Babymonster & Treasure Comebacks, and Kayci Introduction
K-pop powerhouse YG Entertainment is set to debut its highly anticipated first new boy group in six years, executive producer Yang Hyun-suk officially announced Friday.
In a comprehensive video interview posted on the agency’s official blog, Yang Hyun-suk detailed plans to introduce this innovative five-member boy group in September, marking YG’s significant return to launching male acts since the successful debut of Treasure.
“We previously mentioned our plans to launch a new boy group this fall,” Yang stated. “As of now, we are firmly aiming to introduce a five-member team in September.”
The upcoming boy group will notably diverge from YG Entertainment’s recent larger-member formats, instead focusing on a more compact, “elite” lineup. This strategic shift is designed to spotlight each member’s unique individuality and exceptional skillset, according to the agency’s official statement.
This significant announcement arrives as the esteemed K-pop agency meticulously outlines ambitious activity plans for its entire roster, including chart-topping groups Babymonster and Treasure.
Babymonster is gearing up for the release of their third compelling EP, titled “Choom,” scheduled for May 4. Yang Hyun-suk described this project as intensely performance-driven, highlighting that choreography production was expanded to an unprecedented scale, involving approximately 10 professional teams. He also specifically highlighted the track “Moon,” a captivating dark hip-hop number developed in close collaboration with renowned overseas producers.

To further amplify their comeback, the agency plans to roll out four dynamic music videos accompanying the “Choom” EP, swiftly followed by a new digital single tentatively titled “Sugar Honey” in June, signaling a robust and aggressive promotional cycle for Babymonster.
Meanwhile, Treasure is set to deliver a fresh new EP on June 1, featuring four high-energy, hip-hop-based tracks. Yang Hyun-suk elaborated that this project signifies a crucial new chapter for the popular boy group, which debuted amidst the challenging COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently faced unique obstacles in expanding their global reach.
“Over the past year, our dedicated producers and artists have poured their full dedication into these projects,” Yang affirmed. “I sincerely hope the upcoming releases bring immense joy and excitement to fans, exceeding all expectations.”
He further added that a pipeline of additional rookie projects is currently in development and will be unveiled in due course.
According to a separate press release issued by YG Entertainment on the same day, the agency has also proudly unveiled a new member for its highly anticipated upcoming girl group, tentatively titled “Next Monster.” This newest addition, Kayci, is the third member to be introduced to the public, following the earlier reveals of Evelli and Chanya.
Kayci, born to a Korean father and a Chinese mother, is presented as a truly multilingual performer, fluent in Korean, Chinese, and English. Positioned as an all-rounder, she is reputed to possess exceptional vocals, formidable rap skills, and advanced dance abilities. This profile underscores YG Entertainment’s unwavering commitment to cultivating globally competitive talent for its next-generation K-pop lineup.
