K-pop boy group TWS made their highly anticipated comeback on Monday, delivering a more direct exploration of youth and romance with their fifth EP, “No Tragedy.” This release boldly expands their signature “boyhood pop” identity into a more mature and emotionally resonant space.

The six talented TWS members — Shinyu, Dohoon, Youngjae, Hanjin, Jihoon, and Kyungmin — officially introduced the new album at a dedicated press showcase held at Yes24 Live Hall in Gwangjin-gu, eastern Seoul.

Pledis Entertainment revealed that “No Tragedy” signifies a distinct evolution for TWS, moving beyond their earlier fresh, boyish energy towards a more assertive and empowered love narrative. Conceptually drawing inspiration from Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers in “Romeo and Juliet,” the album reimagines TWS not as individuals defeated by fate, but as proactive “star-crushing lovers” determined to forge their own happy ending and destiny in love.

“While our previous songs focused on fresh and youthful energy, with this comeback, we aimed to express the emotions of youth more honestly and boldly,” explained TWS member Youngjae. “We wanted to convey a more direct kind of emotion this time.”

TWS member Jihoon elaborated on the group’s artistic direction, stating they sought to maintain their core identity while simultaneously exploring innovative ways to connect with their listeners.

“We dedicated significant thought to how to preserve the essence that defines TWS, while continually presenting it in a fresh manner,” Jihoon shared. “Our approach for this album involved exploring a diverse range of genres, including some we hadn’t attempted before, to offer listeners a rich and varied musical experience.”

The album’s captivating main track, “You, You,” is a dynamic house-based pop song infused with R&B textures. It’s crafted around an undeniably catchy hook and features a candid confession to a dreamlike love interest. TWS member Dohoon, who actively participated in writing the lyrics for “You, You,” shared that he fully immersed himself in the profound feeling of falling deeply in love before translating those emotions into words.

“I dedicated time to watching romance films and dramas that resonated with the song’s theme, allowing me to imagine various scenes and scenarios during the songwriting process,” Dohoon revealed.

Jihoon further highlighted that “You, You” marks a significant milestone as the K-pop group’s first comprehensive exploration of love within their music.

“We gathered in the practice room and engaged in extensive discussions about the true meaning of love for us and how we personally define it,” Jihoon explained. “Following numerous conversations, we ultimately found our answer in our dedicated fans, 42, particularly in the way they look at us when we perform on stage.”

This profound exploration of love resonates throughout all six tracks of the “No Tragedy” album, showcasing TWS’s versatility across genres including house, hyperpop, hip-hop, R&B, funk, and rock. The expansive emotional range present in the record also mirrors the group’s current phase, as all six TWS members have now officially reached adulthood.

“This album holds special significance as it’s the first we’re presenting as adults,” stated TWS member Kyungmin. “With all of us having come of age, we believe we can now demonstrate a much wider spectrum of our artistry moving forward, evolving beyond the fresh boyhood image we’ve previously showcased.”

The “No Tragedy” EP arrives with undeniable commercial momentum, solidifying TWS’s growing popularity. The album surpassed an impressive 1.16 million preorders as of Friday, nearly doubling the 648,182 copies tallied for its predecessor, “Play Hard,” released just six months prior. Furthermore, the K-pop sensation also shattered its personal best first-day sales record, moving a remarkable 833,138 copies as of Monday.

TWS leader Shinyu shared that achieving this significant sales milestone was both a pleasant surprise and a powerful motivation for the entire K-pop group.

“We were genuinely shocked and incredibly happy when we heard that our preorders had surpassed 1 million,” Shinyu expressed. “However, we view this not merely as a number to celebrate, but as a profound new source of motivation from our dedicated fans, inspiring us to work even harder.”

Throughout the six-track “No Tragedy” album, TWS members Dohoon, Youngjae, and Hanjin significantly contributed to the songwriting process, adding what the group collectively described as a deeply personal touch to the entire record.

“My aim was to weave the stories and emotions shared between TWS and our fans, 42, directly into the lyrics of this album’s songs,” explained Hanjin. He further noted that participating in the songwriting had been a major personal goal for 2026. “I dedicated myself to studying Korean diligently while preparing for this album to ensure my emotions were conveyed with utmost accuracy. I am truly happy to have had the opportunity to participate.”

TWS member Youngjae, who contributed lyrics to the compelling B-side track “Fire Escape,” shared that his inspiration stemmed from a diverse range of sources, including books, dramas, and music playlists. Specifically, he cited “Romeo and Juliet” alongside the iconic characters Fiyero and Elphaba from “Wicked,” all contributing to capturing the song’s central theme of discovering certainty and solace in someone who emerges as a powerful rescuer.

Ultimately, for TWS, the “No Tragedy” album isn’t a radical departure from their signature freshness, but rather a significant and intentional expansion of their established musical identity.

“We have consistently centered our music around our core message, simultaneously widening the spectrum of our unique genre, ‘boyhood pop’,” Jihoon affirmed. “With this new album, our goal was to powerfully demonstrate that youth can also encompass honesty, boldness, and direct emotional expression.”

TWS leader Shinyu eloquently summarized the group’s overarching aim for this comeback, perfectly aligning with the poignant title of the album.

“Much like the album’s powerful name, ‘No Tragedy,’ our aspiration is to consistently deliver messages of happiness and positivity, demonstrating resilience without ever being defeated by life’s challenges or tragedies,” Shinyu concluded.
