BTS Jimin on Unexpected Solo Success: 'Truly Grateful' in Rolling Stone Interview

BTS’s Jimin recently opened up about his journey of success and artistic growth, sharing candid insights into his remarkable career.

On the 18th, music magazine Rolling Stone unveiled Jimin’s highly anticipated special cover and an exclusive individual interview video. In the accompanying pictorial, Jimin radiated a captivating blend of soft yet intense charisma, discussing his globally acclaimed solo endeavors, his exemplary military service, and the exciting process leading up to the release of a new album with BTS.

The interview commenced with a direct question regarding his phenomenal solo achievements: “You’ve achieved tremendous success as a solo artist; did you anticipate your solo career would grow so quickly and significantly?” Jimin, who made history as the first Korean solo artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, humbly responded, “I didn’t expect it at all. I am truly grateful for the incredible response.”

Reflecting on his personality, Jimin revealed an unwavering drive for improvement, stating, “Rather than being a perfectionist, I think it’s more that everyone wants to do well, and I have that same desire. Letting go of that ambition feels like I’d be letting go of the desire to work, which makes it hard for me to give up.”

He further explained that a key lesson from his solo career was “not to be afraid of making music.” This newfound courage allowed him to continuously experiment and confidently ask questions during the production of the latest group album. Jimin also elaborated on his collaborative efforts in writing and composing “They Don’t Know ’bout us” and “Into the Sun” from the ‘ARIRANG’ album, offering fans a glimpse into his creative process.

When questioned about his military service and if he felt he adapted well, given he reportedly received several awards, Jimin laughed shyly. He honestly shared that initially, knowing he was a celebrity, he strove to make a good impression. However, he humorously admitted that later, his motivation shifted to working hard to earn leave, which drew laughter from the interviewer.

Addressing how tracks like “Be Mine” and “Who” seem to showcase his background as a dancer, Jimin responded, “I created them envisioning them as great songs to dance to. Especially for ‘Be Mine,’ I even choreographed a dance I truly wanted to share with fans, but the timing was difficult due to my military enlistment.” This sentiment resonated deeply with fans, leading to “Be Mine” trending in real-time at one point.

Meanwhile, BTS, featuring Jimin, is set to kick off their North American tour dates with performances at Raymond James Stadium on the 25th-26th and 28th.
