LG Innotek announced a significant deal on Monday, securing a contract to supply its cutting-edge Wi-Fi 7 automotive communication modules to a major European automotive parts supplier. This lucrative agreement is valued at approximately 100 billion won ($74 million), marking a substantial stride in LG Innotek’s global market presence for advanced mobility solutions.
Mass production of these innovative modules is slated to commence in 2027. Once manufactured, they will be integrated into crucial audio, video, and navigation (AVN) systems by a prominent German client before being delivered for widespread deployment across various global automakers, enhancing in-vehicle connectivity for future vehicles.
The newly developed Wi-Fi 7 module delivers a groundbreaking performance upgrade over existing wireless communication standards. Featuring a robust 320 MHz bandwidth—double that of the prevalent Wi-Fi 6E—it facilitates data transmission speeds that are more than three times faster, setting a new benchmark for automotive data exchange within connected cars.
Further enhancing its capabilities, the module incorporates advanced 4K-QAM modulation, enabling approximately 20 percent more data to be processed per transmission compared to previous generations. This, combined with sophisticated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology utilizing dual antennas, significantly reduces signal loss. The result is exceptionally stable, ultra-high-speed connectivity, crucial even when multiple devices are simultaneously connected and large volumes of data are being handled within the vehicle environment.
Despite its remarkably compact design, measuring just one-sixth the size of a standard credit card, this robust module is engineered to withstand extreme automotive conditions. It operates reliably across an extensive temperature range, from a chilling minus 40 degrees to a scorching 105 degrees Celsius, perfectly aligning with the growing industry demand for compact, durable, and platform-compatible components essential for next-generation vehicles.
Following this significant order, LG Innotek is intensifying its strategic marketing efforts across key automotive markets in Europe and Japan. The company is also actively expanding its comprehensive automotive connectivity solutions portfolio, which includes state-of-the-art 5G-V2X, 5G-NAD, and advanced automotive application processor modules, solidifying its position as a holistic mobility innovator.
“With mobility solution sales projected to grow at an impressive average of 20 percent annually, LG Innotek remains dedicated to delivering innovative products that will continue to lead and shape the future of the automotive market,” stated CEO Moon Hyuk-soo, emphasizing the company’s commitment to driving innovation in the evolving mobility sector.
