In response to heightened tensions in the Middle East, leading South Korean chemical companies have collectively pledged robust cooperation with the government to fortify domestic supply chain stability. This proactive commitment aims to safeguard the nation’s vital petrochemical industry.

The Korea Chemical Industry Association (KCIA) released a joint statement, reaffirming its unwavering dedication to ensuring an uninterrupted supply of essential raw materials to the South Korean market. This collective effort is crucial amidst current global geopolitical uncertainties.

Concerns have escalated regarding naphtha supply, a critical feedstock for petrochemical production, following US-Israel strikes on Iran in late February. In response, 33 major KCIA member companies, including industry giants such as LG Chem, Kumho Petrochemical, Lotte Chemical, Hanwha Solutions, and SK Geo Centric, have committed to prioritizing the securement of sufficient naphtha volumes. Their primary goal is to maintain optimal plant operating rates and prevent any disruption to South Korea’s industrial output.

A KCIA official emphasized the sector’s crucial contribution, stating, “The petrochemical industry remains a cornerstone of the national economy and underpins daily life. The association is dedicated to actively supporting these vital efforts to ensure resilience and continuity.” This collective resolve underscores the industry’s commitment to national economic stability and energy security.
