South Korea’s top business leaders, including the chiefs of Samsung, SK, Hyundai Motor, and LG, are preparing for a significant visit to India and Vietnam next week. They will form a high-profile business delegation accompanying President Lee Jae Myung on his crucial diplomatic and economic trip to these two pivotal Asian markets.
Industry sources confirm that the extensive list of attendees for the India and Vietnam business delegations has been finalized. The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) will coordinate the India mission, while the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) will lead the Vietnam delegation. Both strategically important missions are anticipated to engage approximately 200 prominent business executives from various sectors.
The visiting delegations are scheduled to participate in key business forums, commencing in India on Monday and continuing in Vietnam on Tuesday. These forums will serve as platforms for engagement, with representatives also slated to meet senior government officials in both host nations, fostering stronger bilateral ties.
Notably, Samsung Electronics Chair Lee Jae-yong and LG Group Chair Koo Kwang-mo are expected to participate in both the India and Vietnam legs of this significant trip. Their full participation underscores the expansive and diverse business interests these conglomerates hold across both rapidly growing nations.
Samsung has strategically developed Vietnam into one of its primary global production hubs for smartphones and various electronics. Concurrently, India has emerged as a crucial consumer market and a burgeoning manufacturing center for the tech giant. Similarly, LG has significantly broadened its footprint in Vietnam, encompassing sectors like automotive components and advanced research and development. India is also being strategically positioned by LG as a vital growth market, evidenced by LG Electronics’ ongoing construction of its third manufacturing plant there.
SK Group Chair Chey Tae-won, who also chairs the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), is slated to lead the Vietnam delegation, demonstrating SK’s strong focus on that market. Consequently, he will not attend the India leg. Representing SK Group in India will be Lee Hyung-hee, the esteemed head of the SK Supex Council’s communication committee.
Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Chung Euisun will dedicate his efforts to the India visit, underscoring the nation’s increasing strategic significance for the global automaker. In Vietnam, the Hyundai Motor Group will be capably represented by President Sung Kim, a veteran diplomat renowned for overseeing external and government affairs, ensuring robust engagement.
President Lee Jae Myung’s official visit to India and Vietnam is scheduled from April 19 to 24. This trip marks his inaugural visit to both nations since assuming office last year, signifying a renewed focus on these partnerships. Notably, President Lee’s visit to India is the first by a South Korean president in eight years, highlighting its historical importance.
Considering the substantial and growing presence of Korean businesses in both India and Vietnam, industry analysts anticipate that the participation of these top-tier business leaders could significantly pave the way for substantial follow-up investment plans. Furthermore, it is expected to foster new, strategic partnerships across vital sectors, including semiconductors, automotive, advanced electronics, and energy.
