14th South Korean Oil Tanker Successfully Transits Red Sea

A South Korean oil tanker has successfully completed its transit through the Red Sea and is now returning home, marking the 14th crude oil shipment to navigate this critical maritime route, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced Friday.

This specific tanker loaded its crude oil cargo at Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu Port, subsequently traversing the Red Sea on its journey back to South Korea. For operational security and the safety of the crew and vessel, precise details of its movements were not publicly disclosed, according to the ministry.

Significantly, this marks the 14th instance of a South Korean oil tanker successfully utilizing the critical Red Sea corridor, a vital link between the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. This strategic diversion of shipments began in late February, prompted by the effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran amidst its ongoing conflict with the United States, necessitating alternative and secure shipping routes for South Korean crude oil supplies.

Following these successful transits, South Korean oil tankers that have navigated the Red Sea are now consistently arriving at domestic ports, ensuring the steady unloading of their crucial crude oil cargo, as confirmed by the ministry.
