Posco has announced a significant milestone in its enduring employee blood donation campaign, which has now surpassed an impressive 65,000 cumulative participants. This remarkable humanitarian initiative marks nearly three decades of sustained corporate social responsibility efforts dedicated to supporting patients in critical need across the nation.

Since its inception in 1998, the global steelmaker has consistently organized regular blood donation drives across its key operational hubs in Pohang, Gwangyang, and Seoul, utilizing convenient mobile donation buses. As of June 17, these dedicated employee volunteers have collectively donated an astounding 26 million milliliters of whole blood. This substantial contribution is estimated to be sufficient to aid approximately 200,000 patients who depend on life-saving transfusions.

Beyond direct donations, Posco employees have also generously contributed their blood donation certificates. By the close of last year, approximately 13,500 such certificates had been collected by Posco. These invaluable certificates were then forwarded to vital organizations like the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation and the Korea Leukemia Patients Association, specifically benefiting underprivileged patients with urgent transfusion requirements.

This impactful initiative has evolved into one of Posco’s most distinguished corporate volunteer programs, embodying the company’s spirit of community engagement. The campaign has fostered a culture of profound generosity, with several employees remarkably donating blood over 200 times. These “blood donation heroes” not only receive well-deserved recognition but also serve as powerful inspirations, motivating their colleagues to participate in this vital cause.

A shining example is Jeon Gyeong-sik, a dedicated manager in the No. 4 Plating Department in Gwangyang, who has achieved an extraordinary milestone of 250 blood donations.

“Blood donation has become a fulfilling routine for me; it provides warmth and hope to others in need while also motivating me to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” Jeon expressed.

Similarly, Han Jang-deok from the Production Technology Department in Pohang, with an impressive 246 donations, highlighted how his commitment to regular platelet donations has positively influenced his daily lifestyle.

“I donate platelets bi-weekly. Maintaining optimal health for each donation naturally leads me to avoid alcohol and ensure sufficient rest. This discipline has become a significant driving force behind my consistently healthy lifestyle,” Han elaborated.
