Leading Korean conglomerate LG Group announced its sponsorship of a significant 36-day visit to South Korea by the revered Kagnew Choir. This unique choir comprises direct descendants of Ethiopian veterans who courageously served during the 1950-53 Korean War, reflecting LG’s commitment to honoring their historical service and fostering deeper cultural ties between the two nations.

The impactful delegation, consisting of 34 talented Kagnew Choir members and esteemed 95-year-old Korean War veteran Tesfaye Asmamaw, is set to arrive in South Korea this Monday. Demonstrating its profound appreciation, LG Group is fully covering all essential travel expenses, including airfare and accommodations, a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.

This special visit is meticulously organized by Onday, a dedicated non-profit group that has provided continuous support to Ethiopian Kagnew veterans since 2016. The initiative’s core objectives are to profoundly commemorate the historic sacrifices made by these brave veterans and to actively promote vibrant cultural exchange through the universal language of music.

Throughout their extensive stay, the Kagnew Choir is scheduled to deliver captivating performances at a series of high-profile commemorative events. These include the prestigious International Veterans and Peace Project Concert, held at the National Assembly on Wednesday, and a solemn ceremony in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, on Thursday, marking the 76th anniversary of the Korean War’s outbreak.

Further showcasing their talent and the spirit of remembrance, the choir will also have the distinct honor of singing the national anthem prior to a thrilling Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) game between the LG Twins and Samsung Lions at the iconic Jamsil Baseball Stadium. Their meaningful visit will culminate with a final poignant performance on July 27, commemorating United Nations Forces Participation Day.

An LG official commented on the profound significance of the visit, stating, “The Kagnew Choir’s presence in Korea is more than just an opportunity to honor the noble sacrifices of our Ethiopian Korean War veterans; it’s also a deeply meaningful occasion for future generations to forge connections and understanding through the powerful medium of music.”

The official further affirmed LG Group’s unwavering commitment: “We are dedicated to continuing these meaningful social contribution activities, ensuring we perpetually honor those who bravely dedicated themselves to Korea’s freedom and fully uphold our corporate social responsibilities.”
