Daewoo Engineering & Construction announced Monday the successful development of an innovative real-time AI translation system specifically designed for dynamic construction sites. This cutting-edge technology aims to significantly enhance communication and safety for foreign national workers, marking a crucial step in the company’s expanding adoption of digital technologies across its operations.

This advanced platform boasts support for an impressive 180 languages and incorporates a specialized construction-specific glossary. This glossary is meticulously curated with industry terminology and technical expressions commonly utilized at various worksites, thereby ensuring significantly improved translation accuracy for critical instructions and discussions.

Further empowering site teams, the system offers robust capabilities for users to dynamically add and update frequently used phrases in real time. This feature facilitates highly effective site-specific vocabulary management, allowing the translation solution to be precisely tailored to individual projects and their unique operational language requirements.

Optimized for practical field use, the intuitive platform enables construction workers to receive translated instructions instantly on their smartphones. This seamless communication flow is activated once a site manager establishes a dedicated communication channel. The versatile system is ideal for integration into essential daily activities such as morning briefings, critical toolbox meetings, and all other safety-related sessions, ensuring clarity where it matters most.

Daewoo E&C emphasizes that this revolutionary technology is poised to dramatically improve workers’ understanding of complex instructions and profoundly reduce the risk of accidents by effectively eliminating language barriers during crucial safety training and demanding day-to-day operations. For efficient oversight, site managers can also monitor usage and diligently manage terminology through a dedicated, user-friendly administrative dashboard.

Demonstrating its commitment to innovation, the company is presently testing the platform at the prestigious Sewoon 633 Office project and the expansive G-TOWN Development Project. Both locations have been strategically designated as pilot sites for smart safety technologies, showcasing the system’s real-world efficacy in demanding environments.

The successful launch of this AI translation system is an integral component of Daewoo E&C’s broader, forward-thinking digital transformation strategy. As the esteemed chair of the Smart Construction Alliance, an initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Daewoo E&C continues its proactive efforts in championing and integrating AI- and data-driven technologies across all its construction sites.

“Our real-time AI translation system transcends simple language conversion; it serves as a fundamental communication infrastructure explicitly designed to elevate both worker safety and overall construction quality,” affirmed a Daewoo E&C official, highlighting the system’s strategic importance.

“We are steadfast in our commitment to continually expanding smart safety technologies and firmly believe we will lead the charge in cultivating a truly safer, more efficiently managed, and digitally driven construction environment for the future.”
