Global credit rating authority S&P Global Ratings has elevated the financial strength ratings of both Hanwha Life Insurance and Hanwha General Insurance from A to A+. This significant upgrade reflects their robust financial fundamentals, consistent profitability, and the increasing contributions from their expanding overseas operations.
According to an announcement from Hanwha General Insurance on Friday, S&P Global Ratings has also assigned a stable outlook to both leading insurers, signaling confidence in their future financial stability.
S&P highlighted that this upgrade specifically acknowledges the strengthened capital position and enhanced earnings stability within Hanwha Group’s comprehensive insurance operations. These improvements are largely attributed to strategic geographic diversification and successful international business expansion initiatives.
The official ratings report further detailed the impact of Hanwha Life’s global ventures, noting that overseas operations now contribute approximately 19 percent to Hanwha Life’s consolidated net profit, with significant positive performance observed in key markets such as Indonesia and Vietnam.
Looking ahead, S&P has also projected continued enhancements in the group’s overall financial profile as its businesses sustain their vigorous expansion across the dynamic Southeast Asian region.
Additional factors underpinning the upgrade include Hanwha Life’s commanding presence within Korea’s highly competitive life insurance market and Hanwha General Insurance’s strong, competitive standing in the nonlife insurance sector.
The rating agency also acknowledged the growing operational synergies between Hanwha Life and Hanwha General Insurance, viewing this collaborative advantage as a crucial strategic asset for the group.
“This upgrade signifies global recognition not only of our strong insurance competitiveness but also of the successful overseas expansion and strategic portfolio diversification achieved across all our financial businesses,” stated a Hanwha Life official. “We are committed to continuously enhancing corporate value through sustainable growth, firmly built upon a resilient financial foundation.”
