Leading Korean food supplier Sempio successfully hosted its inaugural live-streamed online cooking class for consumers across the United States. This strategic initiative aims to capitalize on the burgeoning global popularity of Korean culinary culture and make authentic Korean dishes more accessible.
Approximately 100 participants from various regions across the U.S. enthusiastically joined Sempio’s hour-long interactive cooking session. Conducted virtually via Zoom from the Sempio headquarters in Seoul, the class connected participants directly with Korean culinary experts.
During the engaging session, expert Sempio officials skillfully demonstrated how to prepare delicious omelet-covered gimbap and comforting Korean-style egg soup. Real-time communication fostered an interactive environment, allowing participants to engage directly with the instructors.
Participants actively engaged, with some inquiring about ingredient substitutions to personalize their Korean dishes, while many expressed overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding the authentic flavors and ease of preparation.
A key highlight was Sempio’s innovative approach to seasoning: both dishes were prepared exclusively with Sempio’s acclaimed plant-based fermented seasoning essence, Yondu. This popular product, cherished by Korean customers for its deep umami flavor, eliminates the need for additional salt or chicken stock, offering a healthier and more natural option.
Yondu’s remarkable versatility contributes significantly to its global appeal. Beyond traditional Korean dishes, it seamlessly enhances western salads, pasta, and soups. This adaptability has fueled an impressive annual average overseas sales growth exceeding 30 percent over the last three years, solidifying its position as a global culinary staple.
This successful cooking program was strategically organized in collaboration with H Mart, the largest Asian supermarket chain across the U.S. H Mart specializes in offering a wide array of Korean products, making them an ideal partner to reach Korean food enthusiasts nationwide.
Sempio acknowledged that while international consumers demonstrate a robust and growing interest in Korean cuisine, they frequently encounter challenges. These include difficulty sourcing authentic Korean ingredients and a lack of accessible guidance on incorporating them into daily cooking routines. Sempio’s initiatives aim to bridge this gap.
A Sempio official emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “It was incredibly meaningful to prepare popular Korean foods, celebrated globally, while directly connecting and communicating with our participants online. This direct interaction enriches the learning experience.”
Looking ahead, Sempio is committed to expanding its engagement with global consumers. “Moving forward, we plan to continue carrying out various activities for global consumers, including hands-on experiences and educational workshops, to empower them to easily enjoy and integrate delicious Korean foods into their daily lives,” the official added, outlining future plans to foster a deeper appreciation for Korean culinary traditions worldwide.
