Samsung Unveils Android XR-Powered AI Glasses at Google I/O 2026
Samsung Electronics recently showcased two innovative Android XR-based AI glasses, developed in collaboration with Google, at the Google I/O 2026 conference in Mountain View, California. This preview comes ahead of their much-anticipated official launch later this year, marking a significant step into the future of wearable AI technology.
For the first time, both Samsung and Google revealed the actual designs of these advanced devices. This follows earlier announcements of strategic partnerships with leading eyewear brands, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, highlighting a focus on integrating cutting-edge technology with high-fashion aesthetics.
Samsung emphasizes that these new AI glasses seamlessly merge its renowned hardware expertise with Google’s powerful AI services. The collaboration with eyewear partners ensures a fashion-forward design, resulting in lightweight smart glasses engineered for comfortable, everyday use, seamlessly blending into users’ daily lives.
Designed as intuitive AI companion devices, these smart glasses allow users to access a wide array of AI services without needing to retrieve their smartphones. While these initial models do not incorporate built-in displays, they are equipped with essential components including high-quality speakers, integrated cameras, and sensitive microphones, enabling them to intelligently assess and interact with users’ surroundings in real-time.
Samsung plans to introduce these groundbreaking products in two distinct versions: an audio-focused model providing advanced voice-based AI assistance, and a more comprehensive display-equipped version that projects vital information directly into the user’s field of vision, offering an augmented reality experience.
A core feature of these smart glasses is their deep integration with Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, accessible directly from users’ smartphones. This connectivity unlocks a range of convenient functionalities, from hands-free voice-based navigation and personalized recommendations for nearby restaurants to even facilitating direct drink ordering, all through voice commands.
Further enhancing their utility, these AI glasses boast an impressive suite of features. Users can benefit from real-time voice translation that accurately captures and reflects the speaker’s tone, live text translation for foreign languages, and AI-generated summaries of smartphone notifications. The glasses also support voice-controlled calendar scheduling and instant photo capture via their built-in cameras, making daily tasks more efficient and hands-free.
Kim Jung-hyun, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Experience division, articulated the strategic importance of these AI glasses, stating they represent a pivotal expansion of the company’s burgeoning AI ecosystem.
“Building upon Samsung’s established mobile leadership and robust collaborations with our partners, our focus remains on significantly expanding the Galaxy ecosystem experience and consistently delivering more meaningful and intuitive user experiences,” Kim affirmed, highlighting the long-term vision for Samsung’s AI-driven future.
