Mercedes-Benz Korea is significantly bolstering its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Through extensive programs in social contribution, environmental protection, and talent development, the company aims to solidify its position as a dedicated and enduring partner to Korean society.

Since its inception in 2014, the dedicated Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee has achieved a remarkable milestone, accumulating 50.7 billion won (approximately $34 million) in donations as of the first quarter. This figure establishes Mercedes-Benz Korea as the leading contributor among all imported carmakers in Korea. These impactful programs deliver tangible benefits, notably supporting child protection centers, fostering urban forest development, and enhancing youth education nationwide.

A cornerstone of these efforts is its flagship charity run, “Give N’ Race,” which has garnered immense support. Since its launch in 2017, the event has engaged over 165,000 participants and successfully raised more than 8.6 billion won dedicated to child welfare and education initiatives. The most recent event set a new record, generating an impressive 1.02 billion won, thanks in part to the introduction of a voluntary donation option. Funds generated directly contribute to vital areas such as child protection facilities, development of cultural infrastructure, and providing much-needed scholarships for promising young athletes.

Environmental initiatives are also a rapidly expanding area of focus for Mercedes-Benz Korea. The “Green+ Kids” program, established in 2021, has already been recognized by the Environment Ministry as an outstanding environmental education program. It provides engaging, hands-on learning experiences designed to help children grasp the complexities of climate change and actively engage in practices promoting carbon neutrality.

Building on the success of Green+ Kids, the company recently unveiled “Green Plus STEAM,” an innovative and advanced educational program tailored for upper-grade elementary students. This program seamlessly integrates critical concepts of sustainability and future mobility into a comprehensive science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM)-based learning framework. After a successful pilot phase in the Seoul metropolitan area, a nationwide expansion is strategically planned for the second half of the year.

Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz Korea is significantly intensifying its urban environmental projects. Since establishing a partnership with the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2022, the company has successfully developed seven “Green Plus Urban Forests,” including a prominent flagship location at Boramae Park. Beyond urban greening, it has contributed 1.5 billion won towards crucial forest restoration efforts in wildfire-affected areas. Cumulatively, over 33,000 trees have been planted nationwide, projecting an estimated annual carbon reduction effect of 83,500 metric tons, making a substantial contribution to environmental sustainability.

Talent development continues to be a cornerstone of Mercedes-Benz Korea’s long-term strategy. The “Mercedes-Benz Mobile Academy,” inaugurated in 2014, has already provided specialized training to 1,429 students from leading automotive-focused universities. Impressively, 173 top-performing students have been selected for invaluable study visits to the company’s global headquarters in Germany, offering international exposure. Crucially, this program also creates direct pathways to employment opportunities within the extensive Mercedes-Benz dealer network.

Furthermore, the company proudly operates the advanced “Mercedes-Benz Training Academy,” the first of its kind in Asia, established in 2015 with a significant 25 billion won investment. This state-of-the-art academy offers specialized programs, including the “Automotive Electric Traineeship” for university graduates and the “Ausbildung apprenticeship” specifically designed for vocational high school students. These initiatives are vital in continually strengthening the pipeline of highly skilled technicians for the future of mobility.

Through the strategic integration of comprehensive ESG initiatives and robust workforce development programs, Mercedes-Benz Korea is not only reinforcing its esteemed position as a truly responsible corporate citizen but also actively building sustainable, long-term competitiveness within the dynamic Korean market. This holistic approach underscores its deep commitment to both societal well-being and business excellence.
