Jisoo’s Sister’s TV Debut: Family Controversy in Spotlight

Jisoo's Sister's TV Debut: Family Controversy in Spotlight

Blackpink Jisoo’s sister, Kim Ji-yoon, to appear on reality show amidst family controversy

Jisoo of Blackpink (Blissoo)

Kim Ji-yoon, the older sister of K-pop star Jisoo of Blackpink, is slated to appear on a TV reality program next month, drawing significant attention amidst ongoing family controversy.

An influencer in her own right, Kim Ji-yoon, Jisoo’s sister, will feature on tvN’s upcoming “Kill It: Style Creator War,” which is set to premiere on May 12. A former flight attendant, Kim first stepped into her TV career last year with the game show “Super Seller: Incentive Game.”

“Kill It” is a competitive program designed to discover the most “iconic” fashion creator, bringing together around 100 participants, including influencers, models, and brand ambassadors.

Her appearance follows weeks after reports surfaced detailing the arrest of a man in his 30s—widely identified as Jisoo’s brother—on April 15. He was apprehended on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female livestreamer at his residence in Seoul. This case has since garnered substantial public attention, with additional serious allegations, including claims of domestic violence, also emerging.

Blackpink’s Jisoo has publicly distanced herself from the matter. Through her legal representative, she stated that she has lived separately from her family for years and that neither she nor her agency maintains any legal or business ties to her brother. Her agency also vehemently denied online claims suggesting he held any executive role within the company.

Despite these clarifications, public scrutiny has intensified. This follows reports that his name appeared in the credits of the recently released Netflix series “Boyfriend on Demand” as CEO of Jisoo’s agency, Blissoo, a claim her label has denied. Jisoo herself stars in the series as Seo Mi-rae.

Industry observers note that issues involving family members can significantly pose reputational risks for high-profile celebrities like Jisoo.

“For top stars, even their family members can gain public attention regardless of their intentions,” commented music critic Lim Hee-yun. “That visibility can become a risk factor, as the public often associates family members directly with the celebrity. Any controversy involving them can quickly reflect negatively on the star.”
