HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has significantly boosted its order book, securing new shipbuilding contracts worth an impressive 1.97 trillion won ($1.45 billion) within just two days. This substantial achievement underscores the company’s strong momentum in the global maritime industry.

As the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai’s prestigious shipbuilding unit, HD KSOE finalized contracts for a total of 14 high-value vessels between April 2nd and April 7th. These new orders encompass a diverse range of critical vessel types, including advanced LPG carriers, petrochemical carriers, and state-of-the-art LNG carriers.

The successful streak began on April 2nd with orders for four sophisticated LPG carriers, valued at a combined 589.1 billion won. This included two 90,000-cubic-meter vessels for a prominent Greek shipowner and two 40,000-cubic-meter vessels for an Oceania-based operator. These eco-friendly ships, equipped with advanced dual-fuel engines for sustainable operations, will be constructed by HD Hyundai Samho and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, with deliveries scheduled between 2028 and the first half of 2029.

On the same day, HD KSOE also secured a significant contract for eight 50,000-ton petrochemical carriers from an Asian shipping company. This order, valued at 611.7 billion won, further expands their presence in the chemical tanker market. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will undertake the construction of these vessels, expected to be delivered by the first half of 2029.

Continuing its success, on April 7th, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering finalized an order for two 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carriers. This valuable contract, worth 770.2 billion won, was awarded by Sonangol Shipping Holding Limited. The construction of these crucial LNG carriers will be handled by HD Hyundai Samho, with deliveries anticipated by the second half of 2029.

In total, these strategic deals have added 14 new vessels to HD KSOE’s portfolio: four LPG carriers, eight petrochemical carriers, and two LNG carriers, collectively reinforcing its market leadership with a total value of 1.97 trillion won.

Industry experts note a rising demand across various vessel types, including tankers, gas carriers, and container ships. This surge is attributed to current geopolitical risks and escalating global oil prices, creating a favorable environment for shipbuilding.

An official from HD KSOE reiterated the company’s strategic focus, stating, “We are committed to prioritizing selective orders, particularly those for high-value-added vessels, to ensure and maximize our profitability in a competitive global market.”
