S-Oil has reaffirmed its commitment to public safety by announcing a substantial donation of 475 million won ($321,000) dedicated to firefighter support. This significant contribution, made in partnership with the National Fire Agency and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare, was officially presented Wednesday at the company’s headquarters in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
These vital funds are earmarked for diverse support programs throughout the year, directly benefiting firefighters and their families. Initiatives include crucial medical expense coverage for injured firefighters, educational scholarships for children of fallen heroes, and recognition awards for outstanding service members.
This recent donation is a cornerstone of S-Oil’s long-standing “Hero Firefighter Support” program, which was originally established in 2006. For over two decades, S-Oil has consistently offered comprehensive support to firefighters and their families across Korea, recognizing their invaluable role in safeguarding public safety and lives.
During the ceremony, S-Oil also recognized exceptional bravery and quick thinking through its “S-Oil 119 Master Saver” awards. Forty emergency responders were honored for their prompt first aid efforts, which significantly minimized injuries in critical situations.
Throughout its 20-year history, the “Hero Firefighter Support” program has expanded to encompass a wide array of initiatives. These include special awards for hero firefighters, compassionate condolence payments for bereaved families, educational scholarships for children of fallen firefighters, essential medical support for injured personnel, and rejuvenating wellness camps designed for firefighter couples.
Cumulatively, S-Oil’s unwavering dedication has channeled a remarkable total of 11.2 billion won in aid to approximately 3,904 firefighters and their families. This extensive commitment has garnered significant recognition, including the prestigious Volunteer Award at the 29th KBS 119 Awards in 2024. Furthermore, S-Oil CEO Anwar Al-Hejazi was personally bestowed the honor of an honorary firefighter.
