Naver and Spotify convened a two-day roundtable discussion in Stockholm this week, focusing on the progress of their strategic partnership and exploring opportunities for deeper collaboration within the Korean market.
The high-level meeting, hosted at Spotify’s headquarters on Tuesday and Wednesday, saw the participation of Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon, alongside Spotify Co-CEOs Alex Norstrom and Gustav Soderstrom, and other key executives from both organizations.
During the roundtable, both companies emphasized the positive initial outcomes of their partnership. This includes the successful integration of Spotify into Naver Plus Membership and the provision of Spotify audio access through in-car navigation services.
A key highlight was the significant traction gained among younger demographics. Naver reported a 17 percent month-on-month increase in new Generation Z sign-ups for its membership in December, following the launch of the collaborative initiative. Generation Z typically encompasses individuals born between 1997 and 2012.
Building upon this positive momentum, Naver and Spotify outlined plans to broaden their cooperation across various areas, including search functionality, marketing campaigns, and content creation. As of last week, users can now conveniently log in to Spotify using their existing Naver credentials, further enhancing accessibility and improving the overall user experience.
“We reaffirmed our shared vision of supporting creators and enhancing user experience,” stated Choi Soo-yeon, emphasizing that the partnership aims to expand the ways in which users discover and engage with music and audio content.
Alex Norstrom characterized Korea as a vital market, blending local creativity with global influence. He noted that the partnership effectively combines Spotify’s expansive global platform with Naver’s robust domestic ecosystem.
Gustav Soderstrom added that the collaboration is evolving beyond simple integration to establish a longer-term alignment of priorities and foster continued platform development.
